Gsvs5, well spotted, I missed that.

Other than photos of those lads at The Wheel, I've never heard of (or seen) leather trim on denim before.
How common was it? Drew a blank here.

I don't know if it was particularly a Midlands/Northern thing,but around '68 it was very common.Trimmed  front pockets,Elbow patches on Shetland Jumpers was very popular with both sexes.Having said that,this photo is the first time I recall seeing the hem of jeans trimmed like that,and the fact that they show so little signs of wear ?

I love the photo of the lads in the Mk II Jag.

The last time I saw a Mk II in that kind of original condition, it was sitting with it's engine running, outside the National Westminster bank on Southall Broadway in the early 70s.

There was Gomshall Tanneries(near where we lived),you could get Leather Trimmings from there-had a Mate who worked there.I have written before about having Leather edging on Jean Pockets-and under the Crotch.smile.gif

I've not seen the original (bottom) photo before. But, I bet the story behind that photo was twenty times more relevant to this forum, than anything 'Allen' had ever written.
