Gill, River Thames July 1970.

Grown out crop , boy's shirt, Levi's cords.

We did that - didn't we?

Unless you had a fat bird - and they were rare - it was hard work for the girlies to fit into anything. Love the pic, BTW!!!!

Bizarrely, I used to swap (too big for me, then!) crew-necks with my bird - at the time - who had huge knockers!

Shame Gill is not on here.Always interesting to see young Ladies.

seventiessister.Welcome, you dont say if you ( or your sisters ) were into "our" look,if you have any memories about those times they would be welcome because we havent had much input from ladies who were about then.A bit strange really because there are quite a few ladies who put up posts on Retrowow.BTW a nice looking "bully",i used to have one too.

About Gill. Great pic.I think she was Bunty's brother GF, so it looks like she was involved in the scene...

Wasn't my intention but I could see how it looked that way on further reflection it probably wasn't in best taste.

Cerneabbas. I saw those "leather MA-1" made by Schott, and they look really better than the Alpha' ones. But a bit pricey...

Clouseau.Yes they are expensive, there was one on e bay in good condition...alas 48" chest. I have one something like it with no arm pocket,i have had it about 15 years but it is still quite stiff because i dont wear it often ( in fact i thought i gave it away years ago,but it was at the back of a cupboard !). Are the French air force jackets still available ? and how much do they cost ?,i am watching the black "Ma1" on e bay, auction finishes today.

Cerneabbas. Here is a link where they sale it:

http://www.lamibidasse.com/blouson-en-cuir-militaire/blouson-de-cuir-aviateur-armee-francaise-original/496

Or you can do a search on the net : "blouson cuir aviateur armée de l'air française"

I'm sure you can find some on Ebay at a good price. And they do look better when they are not new IMO.

I forgot : they have a removable fur collar and lining, and a pocket with an orange survey waistcoat.

& take care with the size: a 46 would be a french 56. (Look at "correspondance de tailles" to be sure.)

I just saw the one on e bay you speaked of: looks quite the same to me, could be a dark blue turned black with age. Very nice price.

When you get past the age of 16/17 the Girls did look older.Gill had the same Hairstyle as one of my Girlfriends did.The Crop(that is prevalent with todays Skinhead Girls)was not worn by older Ladies.

I didn't mean it as an insult in the least, she seems to have been an attractive lady I just thought the hair style made her look a little older and mature than some of the girls pictured previously, my estimation of age was probably a bit off but I was getting at she was most likely not a 16 or 17 year old girl either and what I gathered you guys saying most men or women did not stay in the scene that long after that age, perhaps I got that confused?

Clouseau.Thank you for the link to the air force jackets....i have remembered a tv programme that was shown here about 1970 the Aeronauts it was about some French air force guys it was on when i got home from school,i looked it up it was Les chevaliers du ciel, did you ever see it ?....Also was thinking that the jacket on e bay could be a copy or maybe another countries air force used the French one as a design but changed the colour ?......I was first in France in the late 70s,did the CRS guys wear leather jackets too ? or is my memory faulty ?Girls !!! when you mentioned the French skinhead look from the mid 80s it was a very distinctive image, did the French skinhead girls also have their own "identity" ? or did they dress the same as the English girls ?...

Cerneabbas. I remember very well "Les chevaliers du ciel". It was at first a comic book, then a popular TV show that i watched when i was a kid, and they made a (not so good) movie a few years ago.

About French "Birds", in my memory they tried to look quite like the English girls. Some of them didn't want to cut their hair too much though, and they would be looking more like sixties girls, mod like, or "two tone" girls.  As i told you before, everybody in the local scene looked towards England, even if some guys developed a "french touch" in their look. About the CRS, i don't remember very well, but it is true that their uniform changed several times. I remember the motorbike policemen wore black leather jackets.

I found an interesting picture that i think has maybe not been posted before. Looks like two suedeheads, evolving from skinheads. Tatoos showing, not that common on pictures of that time. (Sorry MoM, no idea of the credits)

Has anyone else looked on the Lee original thread on here ? some great pictures including the Lee Rider 101 23 oz,the guy has them pictured standing up on their own ! I am finding my Wranglers uncomfortable after years of not wearing denim but those 23 oz must be killers.I am still not sure about the modern jeans, the "rise ",these Wrangler Ben has the waist band on my hips,i would feel more comfortable if the waistband was higher..am i old fashioned ? or do others agree ?...what jeans/style would be more suitable ?.
