The thin sleeveless Cardigan is all but forgotten today.Only the chunky Cardigan is remembered as Skinhead wear.I used to have 4 of them, back then-Navy,Beige,Burgundy and Black. They would look smart with a pair of Strides,as well.

Ha! Ha! No sorry mate - I'm from the West, as in West of England, Bristol (although my grandad was from the East End of London). Those photos are of young Bristol City fans and their 'end' at Ashton Gate was known as the East End, so yep they were East End Boot Boys but not in the Laaaaandahn sense, sorry for the confusion. I'm a Bristol Rovers fans and our end was the 'Tote End':

That's actually Eastville, the Rovers ground, rather than Ashton Gate. The numbers on the stand roof are the tote clocks used for the dog racing there, hence "Tote End". The dog track is also visible in that photo as well.

Eastville Stadium.

Note the gasometers in the background. Hence The Gas and Gas Heads nicknames.

Site looks more like this these days though...

Looking back at the originals.. the way we ended up, looking like the hippies that we despised, I got into Heavy Rock, never had much time for Glam except Bowie.
But you know what.. we may have looked like hippies but inside we was still Skinheads. :D

Exactly what Bowie alluded to:

"Now Lucy looks sweet cause he dresses like a queen
But he can kick like a mule it's a real mean team."

Me, I got all funked up and boogied on down....

Trouble was always around the corner..and you would be taking a chance going into other areas, in saying that if you got invited you would be made welcome, for all the aggro.. skinheads liked to make friends, I was at Highfields Holiday camp Clacton in 70 meet Two Sisters and their Brother .. from Poplar, The older Sister Mary May , She worked in the Bricklayers or Builders Arms ? Stepney, We walked in there one Saturday night, People giving us the once over, Next Mary shouted out alright Roy..and that was it......we drank over The Mile End road for years after that..never saw one fight. great people and smart as fcuk.:)

And in East Ham as well A.Used to go there and get a lot of Clothes. There was another small Shop in Upton Park(nearly opposite Tescos.) in Green Street..If you looked about there were ones that were tucked away. That`s what made it interesting.

Never had problems in Mile End-later,during the late 70s,used to run Soul Dos there-the Old Globe etc.,still no problems.Used to have People drive into the East End from outside London, but when I asked some People from West London why they did not come-the excuse was the reputation of the Krays made them think twice about coming to the area.

Yep i remember the chain of shops Take Six they use to do some nice stuff.

Well we West Londoners had no worries about going over to the East End, we would get off at Whitechapel, over the road for a couple in the Hospital Tavern, then onto the Black Bear, The Blind Begger was of no interest to us ,[ no music in there] we would also get in the Old Globe and the New Globe.
We would also venture right out to the Room at the Top.. and the Palais Ilford. another place was the Lion and Keys Stratford.

We went fcuking everywhere.:D
