flyfronted. You were 10 in 68,same age as me then.Yes i remember we sang that "wings of a sparrow " song,of course we were going to fly over Ashton (Bristol City) not Tottenham,do you remember a song about Jeremy the sugar puff bear joining the skinheads ? we sang that too.I was thinking today about going to football in the late 60s,Rovers had a manager called Bert Tann he was there for years, anyway he got unpopular and i remember Rovers fans singing "send Bert Tann to Vietnam halleluah" to the tune of Michael row the boat ashore.

Botolph.Back in the day ( which is sounding like Uncle Alberts "during the war "),i think that Brutus was aimed at the younger ones ( my age),they had eye catching colours but the quality was never that good compared to Ben Sherman IMO.....I have been looking at Cheaney Tenterden semi brogues, you can find them for £275,they will look great for years and you can have them resoled, they are an investment ( they outlast loads of cheap shoes ! ) so i would buy them.....£280 for a Harrington ? not for me.

"We don't carry hatchets or hammers,

we don't carry razors or spanners,

we've just got recruits,

in big hobnail boots.

side by side"

In 1970 the last 2 lines changed to:

in Doc. Marten boots

side by side

Yes, The price has doubled, and it became insane IMO. I am glad i bought one at a decent cost before the company was taken over by the Italians. I saw in a shop one recently made, for double price (at least), the quality seemed poorer and the materials thinner...

I just checked on mine: the outer is 100% cotton, gabardine style, Teflon water reppelent. On the new one (look at the oipolloi link and forget their propaganda) the outer is 50% cotton, 50% polyester...

Clouseau. We have mentioned before on this forum that prices go up and quality goes down,Barracuta seems to be another brand living on its past reputation ( IMO ) we could make a long list of companies doing the same, make it in China etc, cheaper materials, increases profit.

I loved them at the time. They were fresh and very different, particularly in the (Tan/Blue/Cherry?) colour combo. However no shoes have ever given me as much excitement upon obtaining them than my first Boxtops.Making the trip from the Midlands to Chapel St Market in Islington is remembered as it was yesterday.Black Boxtops, black socks, petrol blue cords, floral print s/s jersey knit penny collar shirt. The next big purchase item would be a Budgie Jacket.I wanted a 3/4 length leather one with the multi colour panels and scallop edge bottom, but had to settle for a waist length canvas.

Ahhh the memories !
