You know what's a total head scratcher for me? When psychobillies incorporate skinhead fashion and claim to be pure psychobilly or worst("Skin-billy" or "psycho skins"). That's soo fuckin stupid.

But it's easy to incorporate elements into a smart look that has recognizable elements of skinhead, without being a skinhead. And in that regard I wouldnt look at it as being poseur-y. I remember seeing this guy in the late 80s...walking in DMs, MA-1 bomber, had pins and badges all over his jacket but they were all of new wave bands like The Cure, Smiths etc. Nothing against those bands, I love that **** myself, but it was weird to see him decked out in full skin gear without any recognizable clues that he listened to any sort of skinhead music.

See, I'm screwed in the haircut department as I wear grade 1 or 2 crop as is. So you add boots and say a denim jacket (which I wear as is) and even without trying you have nearly a full kit.

Skinheads didn't pay much attention. To us, Angels were "just Greasers pretending to be Hells Angels, not proper Hells Angels like they have in the USA". I reckon if they had been, skins would have paid them more respect. I remember meeting a guy at a party who commented on my being a skin. I asked him how he identified himself, and he said "I'm a Hell's Angel... when I'm dressed up." I tore him off a strip, telling him that for "proper" Hells Angels in the USA it was a 24/7 thing, a lifestyle, not a dressing up thing.

It was the older generation, many of whom had lived through WW2, who were outraged by the Nazi items.

Exactly. A football scarf would have been acceptable at a match, but there wasn't the fetish for having this season's away strip - that's a more modern marketing ploy. No decent skinhead would have compromised his look,

well if you don't mind being mistaken for something you're not then you should just wear whatever you want. If I saw *you* (a guy dressed skinhead but not), and was intrigued to where I started a conversation with you and upon finding out you were not a skinhead my reaction would be "damn that guy is dressed really smart for someone not into skinhead"...but keep in mind there are plenty of neanderthals that could take an opposite approach, of "hitting you up" as if you were potentially an "enemy". I dont know if you remember a guy that used to post here a lot named Saucemaster...anyways, he shaved his head and occasionally dressed very "skinhead-esque" esp when he wore his harrington. If I didnt know him I would think he was one, or used to be. But he has nothing to do with the scene, just likes that smart clean look. And I never thought he was trying to be something he isnt (as far as looking poseur). So go for it, a big part of being a skinhead is the "skinhead attitude" and even if you're not one, a bit of a "I'll do what the **** I want" is always a good mantra to live by, sartorially. and Merry Christmas to everyone!

You know what they say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I may be biased saying this but proper skins are the best dressed blokes around. Can't really blame anyone if they want to dress like skinhead.

A pair of cherry red Astronaut's are for sale right now on ebay, made by Dr. Martens though. Unfortunately they're pretty small, UK4 but they're pretty awesome, wish they were in UK10

GetSmart, do you know of any companies that make an oxblood/burgundy tassel loafer with kilt and vamp just like Loakes' Brighton model? Or maybe somewhere that carries them for cheap AND in the US? The reason I'm so particular is that I really like Loakes' tassel loafer, because it doesn't look feminine like almost every other tassel loafer I've seen, especially those with no strap going across and kilt.

M-o-M, Did original skinheads wear white short sleeve button down shirts? I've notice that you guys would wear white long sleeve button down shirts(cuffed) but I haven't seen(or can recall seeing) any Original skinhead pics that showed you guys wearing short sleeved button down shirts in white.

We certainly wore plain colours...

... but as for white, well, I don't see why we wouldn't have, but on the other hand I can't recall having seen an occurrence, and I can't recall having had one myself (I didn't have much gelt, and needed to be selective in what I bought).

I would wear one now, but that's a different matter entirely, and down to what looks best on a guy of 60.

@Man-of-Mystery

You once posted about an newspaper article where a few skinheads with the name Smith (or Smit?) where interviewed, and a for a while people started calling skinheads, Smiths or something in that direction, before the Skinhead name caught on with the public.

I can't for the life find it in this thread anymore, did I imagine/dream that
