yea that's what we all call a monkey jacket now. got that one matter of fact, great lightweight for spring days to just take the chill off ya you can still get it here, all sizes. full price tho, I've seen them for much less when they were current season and on sale

Check out these pics of a band called the 'Neat Change' - hard mod/proto-skin and pre-Slade. They were protoges of Spencer Davis Group. The only track I think they released is a twee psych-pop number disappointingly...

Just reading the "Neat Change" paragraph, I think there's more than a little retro-wishful-thinking about all that. I think he has telescoped three or four years into one, plus all this "We were the first this... we were the first that..." business doesn't have the right ring to it.

I've been looking for something similar.

If you check warrior clothing they have a few colorways for £30/$47 (including the Navy with white/red trim). They're probably decent quality because their Harringtons are great.

You keep jogging my memory. My mum also referred to mine as a "monkey jacket" as a term of disparagement. The term comes from the time when organ-grinders used to have a pet monkey rattling the cup for tips. The monkey would often be dressed in a very short "zouave" jacket.

What about Blue Beat Jacket? Heard it was applied to the blue monkey/surf jackets back in the late 60s.

Hmmm... it doesn't ring any bells. "Blue Beat" was another term for "Ska", so it's not impossible.

i took a punt on this coat, I'd always wanted a donkey jacket, but more of a refined one (and not in black) and this seemed to suit the bill nicely. Price was good, being half off, but it took a few weeks (about 3?) to ship and their customer service is pretty bad as far as not responding to emails or even phone calls. Well they finally shipped it last week fedex 2 day international, got it today and I have to say it's damn awesome. Wool blend cloth is VERY soft and plush, and THICK. This is def a cool weather coat. Size 38 fits nearly perfect, I had thought it might need a lot of tailoring (bringing in the body, shortening sleeves etc) but it's near perfect out of box for this type of coat (easy to layer under). Had been missing a camel color coat in the closet so it filled that hole very nicely.

Different strokes - I think I'd rather have a traditional sheepskin.

cool !^^ mine, pic taken last week....our temps are actually cold enough for wearing one! this is camel color too, guess I meant a wool camel coat was missing in my closet

Equally cool - and so is the damn weather (we have two feet of snow).

i picked up a really nice double breasted sheepskin at a goodwill in west roxbury a couple years ago. its more of a western style with epaulets and horn buttons but it suits me quite well. the material is a bit dry could any of you reccomend me some shearling care products to bring it back to life?

I am looking into getting a nice chesterfield/crombie, besides that beautiful(and pricy) JtG number which other ones should I look into?
