Hello Man-of Mystery,

Thank-you for your reply, I hadn't seen that photo on the thread! I would very much welcome your comments, but don't think I would feel comfortable being criticised in such a public place!

If you look at the girl second from the right in the photo I posted, she's dressed like I was last time I went out: bottle green mohair suit with a 'peter pan' collar and straight mini skirt, oxford weave '60's Ben Sherman, white tights and the shoes that look like tap shoes (4th and 5th girls form the right in the photo). Similar hair, though mine is jaw-length at the sides, a little longer and more feathered at the back, lacquered and a bit tidier! Saturday when I go out I'm wearing a bottle green mohair shift dress (mini) with a long cardigan (something like the girl 3rd from the right). Make-up: pale with dark eye make-up and false eyelashes. Will that do!

Hello Southlondongent,

Thank-you, that would be great and would love to hear any reminiscences your mum has - you don't hear very many original skinhead girls talking about their look.

At the risk of sounding like a troll, would you consider sending photos by private message? The look sounds good, but I could give better comment if I could see it. [Maybe if you feel more comfortable later on you could post a pic and quote from my comments.]

Thanks, I'll see if I can get someone to take a photo of me at the weekend and PM you.

Does the narrator mean the new mods/proto skinheads that are about to get interviewd as the "way out kids that could've been the Teddy Boys of 10 years ago" or are they talking about the general people who visit this festival (english isn't my native language, sometimes it doesn't translate well into dutch)?

The general people, as I understand it.

an english store that sells a lot of skinhead kit for very good prices, and looks like they ship outside UK as well. Have heard good things about their harringtons, and all jackets are UK made

Skip to 6:21 (and maybe the bit slightly before that, the lot who get wrapped up) to see the "new cropped haired mods" complain about the psychedelic festival (and the lack of decent girls).

I remember seeing that footage on TV years ago. The style is very 60's gangster... The fella to the left of the one doing the talking in the top 2 pics is the spit of James Fox in 'Performance'...

" they all need a bleedin' good bath" ....classic!

Check out these pics of a band called the 'Neat Change' - hard mod/proto-skin and pre-Slade. They were protoges of Spencer Davis Group. The only track I think they released is a twee psych-pop number disappointingly...

Apparantly Slade nicked their image ...

I think one of them left 'cos he didn't like the clobber

Gent, they're very 1968 "totter" - great to see the look.

Less so in this publicity pic:

Do a google image search - Getty Images has a couple of versions of the photos (can't hot-link to them).
