The title says it all.

If the shirt has never been washed, you may succeed. What I've left unsaid says the rest.

No because a dress shirt can not have any pocket

What are the odds? Just bought a Barbera for $70, still haven't washed it. If I take the pocket off and it looks bad, can I put it back on? Thanks.

Yes. You'll just have to shrink the pocket carefully if it needs to go back on. Rub the needle holes in the shirt (wet) gently in a circular motion with a toothbrush before you wash it. This will help remove the needle holes. Or else just order a shirt from me and save yourself the hassle.

Poppycock. Ernest, I once owned a Charvet dress shirt, and it had a dress pocket.

So, what do we think, should I take the pocket off, and risk problems with this shirt that I got at a steal, or deal with it since nobody will ever see it? Thanks.

There you go Steve, setting a great moderator example using those 9 letter words again. Hopkins - reach down, check cojones, remove pocket.

Should my local tailor be able to do it? Any specific instructions I should give him?

I wouldn't have my tailor go checking my cojones ... but he should be able to do the pocket thing.

I don't know about removing a pocket, but you can surely add one. I just learned that Borelli shirts come with extra pockets if you want to add them.

Wait...how come I can't say the P word, but you can say the C word?

I like that idea a lot, more companies should take that strategy, that way you can have a pocket or pocket-less shirt on demand. Jon.

In a perfect world I guess. The only place that I know that does this is Bergdorf Goodman, they actually stock the pockets in the same fabric as the shirt. This practice would probably be too expensive for any lesser priced maker/store to do this; though it probably takes all of 3 minutes to sew on a pocket.
