I know there is a whole thread devoted to thrift store braggin, but I reckon there is a higher degree of difficulty to the art of thrift in Australia, so if I brag anywhere I think I will brag here...

So I called into my local Vinnies on spec and came away with three Brooks Brothers BDs ($10 each) and a Chester Barrie for Austin Reed tweed sports coat in a light weight (for tweed) navy and olive houndstooth with a mid-blue window pane over check (which is actually nicer than it sounds) for $20.

Happy days.

Any recommendations for a Cobbler in Melbourne? I have to re-heel some Vass, and don't want just any old dude hacking my shoes apart.

Great scores. I found an oxford suit thrifting one day and also a brooks brothers shirt. However, this one wasn't button down. In other news.... I saw RM Williams have released a captoe adelaide shoe. Its on page 4 of their latest catalogue. You can view it online. http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/...63#/310c7263/6

Nice work, some fit pics would be great and rather inspirational.

So I haven't read all 197 pages of the thread (just the last hundred) but I think I'm in the right place.

I got on the dress yourself properly train last September. A barbed but accurate comment from my Girlfriend, combined with episode 3 of Put This On, prompted me to use a job change as an excuse for an image reinvention..

Went down and met Ethan at Herringbone, who gave me some pointers, and sold me my first hit. Since then its been seedy light night trips for pocket squares, 3am on the internet hunting eBay for Grensons.. And now I've gone the full lunchtime opium den and been fitted up for a mid grey linen three piece from P.Johnson....

..
But I have a problem.
I've survived the Shock and Awe/Giggles that breaking my work dress code brings (VFX casual: free t-shirts from trade shows and jeans).. Thankfully the nickname Gatsby didn't last more than a few weeks...

The issue I have is dressing like a dandy boy has ruined my cyclo-commuter lifestyle, and im starting to pack on some weight..
This leaves two options: Continue as is, and just buy larger clothes every few months, or get back on the bike..

How do other guys here handle the cycle to work/dress like you care situation?
Are you packing the day's outfit and "portaging" it to work? (ironing on your desk perhaps?)
Are you PTing on mondays with enough stuff in a bag to last the rest of the week?
Are you maintaining a separate set of clothes kept permanently at work (using a laundry service near the office?)

I saw a nice video with Patrick Grant explaining that he rides to work, then simply goes to his wardrobe in the office basement and prepares there.. Which seems like it it should work well, but I'm fairly certain I don't have the pull to get my own walk in wardrobe at work, even in the basement..

Are there other options I'm missing? How are you guys playing it?

I get my clothes cleaned and delivered to the office and run in & out everday.

Naturally, we have showers at work.

I cycle in two days a week with a cotton/poly or a cotton shirt that doesn't wrinkle too much and a pair of trousers (I keep a cheap pair of Aquila shoes in a locker).

The other days of the week I suit up.

The only alternative I think is to leave suits at work, but I'm not going to do that. I don't have to wear a suit to work, I do it because I enjoy it.

I'm the same, having no clear delineation between work clothes and fun clothes makes it much harder to just accept that X portion of my wardrobe is now locked at the office.

It's a problem that's solvable by just having MORE and rotating, but my collection isn't yet Barney Stintson deep.

I live about 25 k's from work, and have a locker there. I take a leisurely drive late on Sunday evening and drop in everything I need for the week. Then I iron the next days gear (using the work facilities) and throw most of the dirty stuff in my quite small backpack on the way home. Dont have panniers for my road bike. Not quite sure what what I will do come winter for the suit jacket, but I have a bureau thing in my workspace which will probably hold one or two....

Oh and most importantly, that lets me ride one of these to work everyday

I vote for the BMC (nice to see more SRAM in Australia)
I do not understand, and therefore fear, the MTB.

When you say work facilities, do you mean your company has an iron and something to use it on? or have you got your own there.. We have showers but no laundry..
