Anybody looking forward to the Super Rugby season? Or is this thread too genteel for such commentary?

It could be that the jacket is deliberately styled that way but more likely it is a mass produced thing that he couldn't be arsed getting altered to fit better. And why would he when he usually has more important things on his mind (like not getting shot) and hardly ever wears the formal uniform.

A belated happy Australia Day all.

On the way home I called into one of my fav proddy opshops and got a Rhodes & Beckett two ply Egyptian cotton etc shirt white never worn or worn once for $2. My size 16. Great. Went over to expensive Prue & Tru butchers and got schnitzels for tonight - proper veal - and crumbed ready - in celebration.

Got home tried it on - bugger - someone has shrunk it in dryer I'd say - sleeve length ok but body size is a slim 14.5 or so - bah.

I'll bring it along to the Melb eGent/iGent /merchant bankers swap meet - when I get around to organizing it. Along with my Alan Flusser brand - brand new shirt from NYC. Wrap your book in it. Or wear it.

Not sure if it's been said before, but had a chat to the girl in Herringbone on 25 Collins St on Wednesday and she mentioned that they were going to bring in quite a few Crocket & Jones shoes to the Sydney store. The Collins Place store had a pair of brown Hallam oxfords and a double strap monks (not sure whats the model name), both in the elegant 348 last.

Some handgrades were mentioned as well going for A$600. If you are in Melbourne and want to try a pair on, just ask them to order it in. I'm definitely going to ask her to order me a pair of the handgrade Finsbury's when it arrives.

The double strap monk is the Lowndes. $600 for Handgrades is a good price... they were $699 last time I was in Sydney. Can someone confirm $600?

Herringbone have the C&J Edgware and C&J Sydney (both benchgrade) listed on their website for $599. Handgrades for $600 would be a very good price here in Australia...comparable to pricing from pediwear and bodileys

I do hope that you mean you are going to purchase them also if they fit and not just ask her to specially order them in for you to try on and then buy them off pediwear?

This is worth investigating. Does anyone know which of the Sydney stores have the C&J? I'm going to be in Sydney after today and would love to have a look and try a pair on for size. I bought a pair of Church Brisbane, cost all up about $370 about a week ago from Herrings, sadly they don't have C&J and UPS still hasn't delivered them. I think they may have been taken hostage by Gerry Harvey either that or the delivery driver is a total idiot.

Seriously I have no idea where you are finding this stuff in Melbourne! Please do let me know if you ever find anything decent in a 40R/L or shoe size 10.5/11.

I find that Rhodes & Beckett shirts barely fit my long arms at the best of times, although I am slightly tempted to check out the suit sale mentioned a few posts earlier. If I do though it would have to come out of the P Johnson fund. Hmmmm quality v quantity - decisions, decisions...

The Circular Quay store has the biggest range of C&Js.

The Opshop scene is a bit of an art.

You have to enjoy poking around too.

Shoes in general are bloody hopeless - in all my years I've only seen about 4 good shoes. Only one of them fitted me.

You just have to pick a few opshops where you can easily pop in without a special trip. You have to then pop in regularly and do a quick scan. Or just make it a habit when passing any opshop anywhere to spend 5 minutes.

The ratio is probably 20 pop ins to one (1) good find.

You have to kiss many frogs before you get to a prince.

There are no short cuts in life kiddo.
