I think that Herringbone has 20% off on certain stock at present, but I could be mistaken. Richards & Richards was having 30% off and that could still be the case.

Just wait until after Boxing Day or the new year - I'm sure that plenty of places will be having sales then.

Thanks - I went to R&R to get my suit altered so when I pick it up I'll be sure to look.

Cheers

Good to hear - George is an excellent tailor and a very nice person to boot.

Whilst you are there, make sure that you have a look at the bizzaro, unbelievably expensive Lattanzi wholecuts with a penis engraved on the side, just for amusement's sake.

I did some strolling around the christmas sales..grabbed a Lilac self-striped slim-fit Polo shirt from Witchery and a White with blue windowpane shirt from Arthur Galan.

Overall, I don't think the Arthur Galan shirt is that great in terms of quality or construction....luckily I'm mad about the pattern. Whoever pays full price for that sort of stuff needs their head read.

Also tried on a Polo Ralph Lauren suit (made by Corneliani). Very nice. I'm hunting down some linen Garrisson trousers as well, only one left in my size in Melbourne. Anyone else recommend some nice places for linen trousers? I might check out Bonaparte again on Lygon St.

BTW I think that Polo Ralph Lauren is probably the best value suit in Australia. Corneliani-made linen suit for $$1145 RRP...currently 25% off so its under 1K. How are they different to an 'official' Corneliani suit? Are they half canvassed? Less handiwork?

The RL suits here in Perth were fused I think.

I've never seen a PRL suit in Perth, in a store anyways. I've seen odd jackets/sportcoats, and they're usually made in China/India/Pakistan. I've seen one or two Italian made ones but they are no way Corneliani.

They have a few suits at David Jones at the moment. Made in Italy.

What do you think of the quality of the Witcheryman stuff?

I ask because I've bought a few pieces from there over the last few months, and been seriously unimpressed by each item after about 2 washes and wears. Each polo/shirt has lost it's shape dreadfully, and I'll not be heading back there anytime soon.

Does anyone here know any tailor, seamstress or perhaps factory that is capable on creating working sleeve buttonhole around Sydney area for a sensible price? They don't have to be handstitches (if they are than I take it as a bonus), machine made is fine.

Last time I visited a reputable tailor (retired as a tailor, doing alteration only now) and was quoted with $75 per button (totally handstitches yet bringing the total to $600 for button hole only! I decided to pass) which in my view is ridiculous.

I haven't worn / washed them yet, so I'll let you know how I go.

Re : button holes - that price is outrageous and you should report the tailor to ACCC. In Melbourne I took a new suit last year to a tailor who charged me $200 for working buttonholes, altering the neck roll, letting out the trouser inseam, the seat and hemming. Maybe it was $250.

From what I've seen worse than Country Road. And that is saying something.
