What makes up the 'core' items? Seeing as this is 30% off spring/summer I presume that it will be items that are classified as 'year round'?

Core is the basics range, basically plain navy, grey and black suiting and the white, light blue pink etc plain poplin shirts. Basically, the stuff that never goes on sale and is always available.

Yep, got the same email. Similar deal to recent VIP event it seems although the discount is a little better. At the risk of sounding trite, core items presumably includes anything which is not seasonal. Last time I was unable to purchase a belt, as accessories were excluded.

i suspect the perth store stocks nothing but core items

I would hazzard a guess that it is the same number of people wearing "Dave Matthews Band" t-shirts who are actually Dave Matthews. Not that the limited number of people who are Dave Matthews is a problem...

I went into the new Perth Herringbone recently and was somewhat disappointed. Looks like it is pretty limited in the range there. Not sure why they chose that particular space either, it is so small.

There have been a pretty big number of country road sales lately though. Although they only have about 2 items a season I like, they are good for staples like t-shirts and shorts (at the risk of offending the pretentious....I mean cultured among us who frown upon such practice as displaying some knee and lower leg. On that topic, I do like how these same chaps would never expect a woman to be frocked up like Anne of Green Gables, maybe it is only female attire that is allowed to move with the times & culture? Such philosophical issues are well beyond my grasp however).

Does anyone know anywhere in Perth that sells wool ties? I have had no success in finding any. On the plus side, it looks like a few more places are stocking silk knit ties now which is great though.

Wouldn't you rather purchase a tie from Panta, Kent Wang, or any of the other tie makers on this forum though? The ties they offer represent fantastic value for money, especially when compared to inflated Australian retail prices.

That would be me you are referring to.

Don't get me going on what women should and shouldn't do with dressing....

I'd hazard that there are more train wrecks in women's clothing on a day to day basis and far more $$ spent on those wrecks than men. At least most guys don't waste much $ on clothes.

Its not a philosophical issue, but one of style and taste and visually pleasing aesthetics.

a large part of which is cultural. a "well dressed" man will look much different in the middle east than they would in Australia or they would in England or the US. Similarly, what is inappropriate will differ. In Australia, we obviously draw significantly on dress that evolved in England, Italy, and the US. The traditional spectator look from England is fantastic, I love it, but it is just not appropriate here (most of the year) given the vastly different climate. Just because the Royal Family is not seen wearing shorts does not mean they are inappropriate in a casual format in Australia. Please dont think I am suggesting this means that a Bintang singlet/billabong shorts/thongs ensemble is appropriate anywhere but the beach, but I dont think showing skin is a crime in and of itself - one of the greatest minds in history did not consider it visually pleasing aethetics to put a tuxedo on the Vitruvian Man. That said, there is no such thing as a style bible, so your rule is not my rule and vice versa, and that is the way it should be. Edit: Also FXH, please dont consider my comments argumentative in any way, they are simply for the purpose of discussion. I frankly enjoy your posts as much as anyones.

A well dressed Australian man is someone who can adapt to where he is and still be look good while keeping his own style in tact. As aussies, it means dressing well for business (or what all of us do for work), but also being able to go to the beach and look good, wear thongs in summer, wear a coat in winter, go to the country and not look like you live in Erskinville, go to the city and not look like you live in Wagga Wagga, go overseas and not look like Bazza McKenzie and well, you get the point.

Australia is not England (to use as an example.) You can't deny our casual/bbq/beach culture and truly well dressed men can adapt to it, still look stylish and not be fuddy duddies that refuse to wear shorts in summer. (Or do you refer to them still as short pants fxh as many of my 90 year old ex Fletcher Jones clients used to? Just joking)
