Hi all

I'm a Melbourne resident and I just found this forum a couple of months ago. Changed my life for the better (poorer).

A question if I may: where are the best second-hand shops in Melbourne? I used to like the one on Bourke near Parliament, but that appears to have shut down. I live in Parkville, but I'm guessing the best suburban Vinnies etc. are in the posh southern suburbs?

I'd love to hear your opinions.

Thanks gents

My brother just brought me back a pair of brown suede Clarks dessert boots from LA. Turns out he got a size too small (AU/UK size 10).

He is heading back in April permanently, so the option is there to maybe return it. But was wondering if anybody here would be interested?

The part of the exhibition that is at NGV is focused around earlier and more extravagant examples of Mens clothing. Around 12.30 or so - we would walk (or tram, run, jog, saunter, sashay, truck, stroll, mooch) on to Fed Square where the second part of the exhibition is at Potter Gallery focused on 20th century and Australian fashion. (Its not all that clear to me how its divided up but this is what I have gleaned without actually ringing up and asking) Its free entry both parts from what I understand. I wouldn't want to spend all that long unless its particularly interesting. I might think of having a light lunch afterwards. The idea is to be low key and inclusive. Anyone is welcome. Lurkers especially. Signal here if you are coming and PM me your mobile number. I'm not particularly organising anything - just providing an opportunity. NB: some of the typos and spellers on that NGV page are embarrassing.
Reminder: Rock up if you want. If I haven't given you my mobile no then PM to remind me before Sat morning. Probably meet in foyer - I can't remember layout- so text me when you get there.

G'day jaypee,

Just wondering if you have any extra info on the pop-up sale or am I too late and have missed the boat?

Hi mate, sorry i completely forgot I mentioned it.
Let me check out tomorrow with the fella that told me and i'll post details

Check, what price would you be after? What colour?

On another note, has anyone had experience with the Logitech Squeezebox (Duet or Touch), Lacie Lacinema, or digital streaming and storage?

Thought might go for a nice dinner with friends this evening so went and try out Quanjude on Queen. Tried the Peking duck there as its what Quanjude is known for and I must say it was pretty good (it better be since its $70

). The other dishes were pretty decent too. All up was about $80 per head. Nice but really wouldn't go too often.

Still waiting for my Borrelli by Sutor Man captoes to arrive by mail. Haven't had any status updates since it reached Sydney on Monday

I just had a package arrive at my place in Perth which, according to the tracker, was still with Customs in Sydney. I have a suspicion that a lot more things are being ordered online now due to the Gerry Harvey whinge-a-thon.

I've had good luck in the South and East....

..but last month I found an old Caruso suit made for Harrolds at my local Salvos in Thornbury. Wasn't my size, but someone else on this forum grabbed it to throw in the upcoming 'Aussie StyleForum carboot sale'.

Your odds increase in wealthier suburbs, but its still a crapshoot.

Your right about that a friend of mine who lives in Mosman brags about the brand new Herringbone, Ted Baker, Fred Perry, on and on brand dropping he picks up at St Vinnies. Here in the ACT its a wasteland, rural NSW used to be good but no more.

Emergency shoes at work? What, are you a ***?!

Or that's what a typical scarf-fearing Aussie might feel.

Good idea actually. Remind me to get myself some hardy beater shoes for rainy days. Any suggestions (though I still am not a fan of chunky shoes)?
