The best ones I found regarding a fit were these Ted Baker ones however the only color they had in a 32 and its not tan enough and just not the colour im looking for.

I also tried on a pair of Hugo Boss slim chinos in a 30 and if they had a 32 i reckon they would've been perfect...

The search continues... save me. once I find the chinos, I can then move into the rest.

Try Uniqlo and MJ Bale for chinos. I like my tobacco MJB chinos. I think Brooks Brothers may also stock a tan chino.

Yeah I was going to try on a pair of tobacco mjb chinos today but they didnt have a 32.

Those? They look pretty casual, especially around the stitching..

These Uniqlo ones look ok but a bit too flat-frontish and casual?

Id like these Brooks Brothers ones you suggested if they were a bit slimmerbut there seems to only be the colours shown...

Hey guys, I finally found what looks to be a suitable pair of chinos - GAP Lived-in skinny khakis in 'palomino brown'

http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1041208&vid=1&pid=351367292

I am also not sure exactly how skinny they are so I would get a pair in the slim below as a backup

http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1041208&vid=1&pid=243639172

The only problem is that there is no shop in Perth and of course no online shop inside Australia... There are shops in both Melbourne and Sydney though. https://international.gapinc.com/gap/au/en/store-locator

I am going to go on a hopeful request here and ask if someone is near any of the stores and can pick me up a few pairs and post to me in Perth at my expense. I would also pay you for the service as it would save me paying shipping from the US. Say $50 which I think is pretty generous.

I'm a 32W and probably 32L, would chase;

x2 GAP Lived-in skinny khakis in 'palomino brown'

x1 GAP Lived-in skinny khakis in 'mission tan'

x1 GAP Lived-in skinny khakis in 'tapestry navy'

x1 GAP Lived-in slim khaki in 'palomino brown'

If anyone is kind enough to do this, please post here, message me or contact me on mobile @ 0434 624 160

Have you tried calling the store direct and asking them to do it? Might save yourself $50.

Double Monk update - according to a pic posted on Instagram at 2.43am, they are pulling out all the stops so as to open this week.

Including working through the night to get the fit out done.

Thanks mate I was just waiting until the morning. I have called up and placed an order they do it the old school way. Money order! They have 40% off store wide so the chinos work out to ~$50 if anyone is interested.

@nevernotspurs - you have the basic combinations and colours worked out - and an outfit or two like that will get you to many situations better dressed than 94.65% of men around.

Don't worry too much about getting the "right" colour of tan/khaki for chinos. People doing it for a lifetime are still looking. Most near enough colours are fine.

I'd recommend if starting out to have a look at TARGET - yes Target. They have a decent cheap line these days, well made, with reasonable shirts and mix and match suits for around $90 the jacket and $50 the trousers. A navy suit in that - that fitted you - would go a long way.

They also have Cotton blazers that look ok to my eye for $90. Chinos for around $40 I think. Now I suspect that some of their stuff is aggressively cut and chinos probably lowish rise . But at the prices and the ability to try on I wouldn't quibble to get up and running quickly. They also have decent leather shoes for around $80 again - not perfect for wearing on the internet but certainly better than what most people you'll meet are wearing.

Jacket Target- http://www.target.com.au/p/men-s-limited-editions-tailored-fit-navy-cotton-blazer/57786698

Shoes http://www.target.com.au/p/geoffrey-beene-hudson-men-s-oxford-shoe-black/56338904

They might be thin on the ground where you are - but GAZMAN generally has a good line of smart casual basics, blue jackets, shirts and chinos. Even better at their factory outlets out of season. They are less aggressively cut but OK and not too expensive. Jacket less than $300 - trousers less than $90 and shirts around $60.

Its wise not to spend too much starting out - and looking good inexpensively is half the battle.

Thanks for the reply and effort, I really appreciate it. I understand where you're coming from in regards to not spending much starting out but I don't mind spending money where it's worthwhile as I am selling most of my current wardrobe which will fund the new clothes.

In some shameless self promotion, I've listed a Napoli Su Misura jacket on ebay (and on B&S here). Currently going for 99 cents.

Question. Going to the Polo at Werribee Mansion for Xmas party this Friday. It's going to be 33c and sunny. We'll be at the 'Peroni Chukka Club' which is apparently a 'stylish marquee'.

I'm thinking a linen/silk jacket, linen shirt, chinos and chukkas!

What would you wear?

David Jones and Myer regularly run offers on beds and bedding.
