So from reading this thread it seems that not many people here are fans of Aquila. Would anyone have any suggestions for alternatives in Canberra?

I've actually got a pair of blakestitched calf leather shoes from Aquila. Granted they were $380, they have been quite good except for the front of the sole which is wearing out fast. They're in a relatively classic style too.

I shopped everywhere before I bought them though. We have pretty slack options here.

For the same price, you can get MTM GYW shoes made up by Kazuna.

They are not actually terribad. Definitely not getting SF Seal of Approval. But It's pretty steep @380 for Aquila to charge. I though all the Aquila shoes are <$199 range?

There are much better shoes to be had for that price.

Now that calls into question how you are expecting your shirts to fit, Jolly.

Loakes, ground floor of Bailey's Arcade in the city. I discussed it a little with Geoffrey Firmin a page or two back. With the crappy AUD prices are pretty much on par with overseas, about $400 each.

That is sort of what I am concerned about.

I think they sell RMWs in Canberra.

Indeed they do, most "fashionable" (not) politicans wear them.

There was a time when you could buy florsheim shoes that looked half decent at a reasonable price.

You still can - vintage off eBay. Best $100 I ever spent on shoes.

I remember my father wore them through the 60's-70's stopped in the early 80's.

Thanks,

I have a pair of Loakes in an oxford style as well that I bought when I lived in London. So beautiful, but I couldn't find a comparable price here in Canberra. $400 sounds reasonable, I'll check it out.
