Hi guys,

I'm looking to get a bespoke and modern dinner suit from Shane Rochefort of Rochefort Tailor in Sydney.

I've seen a bit of praise and criticisms for his shirts, ties and alterations but noone has discussed their bespoke suit experiences with him.

So has anyone here ever had one done with him? Is he a decent cutter?

Thanks for any and all help,

Rambles

If you're talking about "sartorialdoctrine" on Tumblr, he's certainly got it all going on - partly unbuckled double monks, beads on the wrist, vintage watch on NATO strap, short trousers, no socks, back of tie longer than the front blade, and all the rest.

I think that he looks good (albeit not entirely to my taste) but it's all a bit too much (in my humble opinion). He's got some lovely jackets, though.

What he doesn't realise is that Rubinacci pocket square which is #4 on his tumblr, and which will be the "single pocket square for the rest of my life" has... machine-rolled edges.

(cue the discordant violins)

70eur for the privilege of owning a ****** machine-made pocketsquare!

Given the original poster of those images actually went to the effort of doing loving closeups of the rolled edges, I'd say a few people have much to learn still...

His dress style isn't that bad (I'd tone it down a bit but hey). Unfortunately with that weird cow lick/swoop thing he looks about 6.

His parents must have a bit of money...

*LONG POST WARNING*

Okay, so I promised I would do a write up of my new boots for Plestor and a few others who are interested. I finally had a chance to take some photos yesterday morning just before someone turned on the dimmer switch over Sydney.

Yes, I know what you're thinking, a pair of RMW boots. Ho hum. Well, there are a few differences between these and your standard RMs which may or may not be immediately apparent at first glance.

So I was in the market for some new wet weather boots and had a good long look at the usual suspects, English brogue boots and their American cousins like the Alden Indy. Apart from the usual concerns about sizing when ordering over the 'net (particularly acute for Aldens as I have no experience with them, not to mention the complication of UK to US size conversions), I always felt that boots like the C&J Islay or the Tricker's country brogue boots, though beautiful in their way, were too heavy for a city that gets no snow. Also, I was just curious to see just what the Aussies could do.

I have a pair of RMW craftsmen, and they are exceptionally comfortable as well as versatile, and, importantly, I know my size. However, water resistance, particularly before I my old boots were re-shod with a composition sole, was a weakness. In order to really maximise the water resistance, I was keen on seeing if RM could do a boot for me with a storm welt. This was as much a stylistic addition for me as a practical one (the blokes at the factory reckon they don't make much difference FWIW!) RMW aren't known for their storm welted boots, although clearly they knew how to do them (see the Henley). But I'd never seen a SW on a pair of RM dress boots. Anyway, as it turns out they can do a SW on a round toe boot.

The next question was, what leather to get them in? Chestnut yearling was a predictable choice, and the new season rum yearling was in short supply. I thought about vesta leather because of its waterproof properties, but wasn't convinced that it would be quite dressy enough to pass with a suit due to the way it creases. Flipping through the latest RM catalogue I noticed that they now offer camel leather in chestnut, which for me, is far more versatile than tan or black. I had read a little about camel leather; Indigoshrimp's blog was a great resource on this point. I can confirm that it is indeed quite remarkable, both tough but also very supple. Importantly, it resists water very well. It also looks great IMO, and its natural heavy texture makes it like an Aussie version of pebble grain.

Finally, the longhorn composition sole is a neoprene rubber which, in my experience, has a lot more give and a bit more cushion than the silica rubber used in dainite soles. As I've mentioned a couple of times, I've found dainite can be a bit hard on the feet after a while. Combined with the wholecut style of the RMs, it makes for a very comfortable pair of boots in which I would happily walk miles in the pouring rain.

So all in all I'm very happy with the result - a lighter wet weather boot for Australian conditions - and I'm sure these will get a lot of wear over this winter and beyond. Thanks to the guys at bootsonline for their help ordering these. More pics below.

The storm welt is well finished and on par with similarly priced English boots IMO.

Not a 360 degree welt obviously, though I've never had boots or shoes leak in water at the heel, so I don't anticipate this will be a major disadvantage.
