Yesterday's discussion of split toes made me get my Meermin's out from the back of the wardrobe. I've always thought they were a bit too light in colour and a bit too red. But I took to them with some dark brown and then a coat of black polish and I'm pretty happy with the results.

More proper sneakers
:) Was on those classic sneaker threads where you got your pics from yesterday looking to replace mine but just doing some research as I've just bought some Meermin Chukka's (thanks Jason)! Speaking of which I've been wearing Vans for ages and putting up with whatever 'bogan' connotations come with it :p
EDIT:
Good to see Fxh going the full pensioner/foo/goodtaste approved :p

I can think of a few other sneakers I'd choose before volleys for a more grown up sneaker. I don't see the volleys as anymore grown up than Vans anyway, not that I have anything against them.

1. Jack Purcells
2. Chucks
3. Adidas Stan Smiths
4. Adidas Roma
5. Tretorn
6. Superga
7. New Balance (those old ones like BMT has)

That reminds me I need some new sneakers....

Can the chucks be in black?

Tbh I don't even wear sneakers anymore, just RMWs (except when jogging, which is rarely).

I have two pairs of Chucks. One in black leather and one in dark brown leather. Love them both to death.

RE: ASIO wanting uni drop outs. What a short sighted waste if true. I would like to think our intelligence organisation thinks things through a little better than that.

The CdG converse are cool

I quite like the new Nike's with that Japanese name too

And onisuka tiger despite having been a passing fad and quality taking a step down were good

I have a pair of the Country Road sneakers that Journeyman referred to: they look exactly like Converse lows but with no branding, and they're a nice off-white with navy stripes.

I've always wanted a pair of these in white, but can't be arsed importing them...

Let's.

Do.

This.

Thing.

Or, you know, just hang.

I like both ideas (yours and Gerry's). I'm sure I'd enjoy both quite a lot as there's a lot of Melbourne's menswear I've not explored.

Sigh i felt old as I read this. When I was a teen in the early 70's these were the shoe. Nothing else came close in terms of style or coolness, well at least from 1970-1972.
