Just popped into the HBone outlet at Surry Hills during lunch.

Ties are... $30 at present!

Got me a nice reversible navy-brown knit!

Yes, advertising works. We've all been taken for a ride at some time in our lives.

Maybe, but I think most people here on this thread are fairly savvy about that sort of thing.

Score - much of a range in the knit ties?

I went there once about 18 months ago... it was pretty slim pickins', that's for sure.

But it's typical that this sort of thing thrives on this thread. If the other non-Aussie members read it, you'd be made a laughing stock for drooling over that "English" stuff. I've been in Lewin, & Pink etc stores either on Jermyn St or in the US and it's just such crap (pardon the French)

Not great.

But a couple of nice brown reppes here and there... Didn't really look much further after my steal.

Just thought I'd let everyone here know!

Some people here like those shirts due to their prices not because they're confused as to their origins. I've seen plenty of non-Australians here promote/like those shirts, too, so I don't really think your laughing stock argument is entirely justified either.

Pretty happy with that - as you should be! That is a bargain.

I bought a nice mid blue Ballantyne silk knit yesterday but it was $60, not $30. Of course it was reduced from $900 or something equally ridiculous ....so really I saved $840!

Did you score the only one of that kind?

Well Myer was selling those polyester crap for $60 last year. I was actually wondering whether its silk or a wool.

Now send me one please

Nice score yourself, friend. $60 for a quality tie is always a bargain.

Will try to post pics this wkend... if I can sneak the cam away from me dear wife!

Random boredom post: does it raise your eyebrow when you walk into shop's tie section looking for tie and you see a grown man needing shop assistant's help on how to tie a tie?

(gorgeous SAs aside since I would probably pretend I have never tied a tie before too

I have to agree with you there. The TM Lewin store on Jermyn St is about on par with a Rhodes and Beckett store in Sydney; objectively it's pretty poor quality stuff. Thomas Pink was well overpriced for what it was (basically TM Lewin quality with better in-store visual marketing IMO).

Some of the accessories at these stores are good quality, especially compared to the shirts, but again, overpriced and you can get the same or similar in Australia if you know where to look.

I picked up a Drakes silk knit tie myself recently. I think they are the next big thing for the Australian eGentry in F/W 2011 (he says like he's just discovered America).... First day I wore it every young female in the office had a desire to touch me, so yeah, it's my favourite tie at the moment.

Yes, you're probably right these days. First AAAC and now this forum is being over-run with this sort of thing now. Gone are the glory days - hence this thread: http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?p=4193946
