Slightly OT, but can any Melbourne-based members recommend a good conservative business dress eatery for tonight? I'm looking for something along the lines of Sarti (which is closed on Sundays). A little Italian bistro, medium pricing, great food. Or whatever. Meeting up with an interstate colleague so I want something very very Melbourne.

Have to be italian?

ChinChins is pretty good. South East asian though. No bookings, however.

Tutto Bene at Southbank is always good, not as up market as Sarti though, more a traditional Italian trattoria style.

Jas, might I ask you for fit comments about the Meermin Chukkas (Rui) compared to your other Meermin shoes on narrower lasts? Wondering if you experience any heel slippage and if the Rui is the same length as your other pairs (not neccesarily elongated). Thinking of grabbing another pair of chukkas...can't be stuffed searching for some Florsheim gunboats as I have tiny feet.
P.S.
Gerry might I ask which fit of Bill's Khakis you wear and what you think of the rise? Is it as high as your wool trousers?

You Melbourne gents seen that 3Sixteen is doing a pop up shop in Melbourne in June? I'm pretty jealous, it would be the ideal opportunity to dispel any sizing worries you had.

Yes, Gerry Nelson alerted me to it and we're going along to an event next Sunday evening. I'm not across full details but it's on Chapel St next Sunday from 5pm - 7pm.

If you like jeans or other things like lapel rolls, seven folds or chiko rolls, you should come.

Hi All

Very new here

Just wondering if anyone from Melbourne has heard of or used a tailor called Prince from Royal Asia Boutique in Thailand? (He comes out to Aus once or twice a year)

I have a friend who has some suits made by him and swears by them, they look ok to me, but i really have no idea when it comes to suit looks or quality

I haven't had too much personal experience with Thai tailors but there are some horror stories on TripAdvisor regarding those guys.

I
t seems the majority of tailor operations in Thailand are just fronts for suit factories. They take your measurements and then ship it off to the factories which provide generic fabric marketed as premium Italian or English wools. I've heard there are some who are better than others however, but it appears Royal Asia Boutique is not one of them.

Thanks stebbin.

I read the link previously when trying to research them. 16 reviews, 2 very bad, 14 good. Still only considering using them because of my friend, i am still unsure.

Yeah, alot of the guys giving positive feedback only have given one review and let's be honest here; the majority of guys who head off to Thailand to buy suits don't know a thing about tailoring and they'd be happy with any fused poly-wool suit which barely fits them. I suspect they had only signed onto TripAdvisor to give good feedback at the urging of the tailor. I'd feel alot more comfortable either purchasing a MTM suit from somebody based in Australia or a reputable tailor overseas who have a history of providing good service if any fitting problems occur.
