1= 01/99 bus/cas 2= 90/10 bus/cas

It does depend on what the weave and thickness is and what its worn with but thats my quick and dirty.

Sounds like a bloke who has never owned a home. Problem with this is, those people, 99% of the time that rent never invest the difference between rent and mortgage mostly because they can't afford it (hence why renting in the first place) or they are themselves saving for a house deposit. I'm sure they are out there but I've never met 1 person that rents but has a huge share portfolio instead for example, not counting super of course.

CW, you have officially met one now.

I generally agree with those assessments - or at least the relativities, if not all the weightings you give for bus/cas in each case (as you say depends on what you wear them with and perhaps we have different things in mind). IMO with a couple of exceptions you could conceivably wear all of those as business shirts, so maybe the qualifier should be "conservative" business, which would significantly limit your choices.

Blue striped shirts are quite common cheapo work shirts here (think Lowes or Ganton poly-cotton ones), so they are seen as a safe choice and one in which you're not likely to stand out compared to say, a black striped shirt (which in theory should be no less formal but somehow it looks that way). Number 3 and number 6 in your examples are pretty similar apart from colour, but the black would be the only one that would cut it as a cocktail shirt, and be more likely to get you noticed at work, for good or bad.

Stripes are more versatile than checks, though I do prefer the latter for smart casual wear. Of these two below you could only just wear the blue one with a tie (though I wouldn't personally), and neither of them really goes with a dark suit IMO (the open necked gingham shirt and charcoal suit look is a favourite among boofhead TV sports presenters). They would look nice under the right sportscoats though.

yeah I agree - I wouldn't want to defend the ratios - but it was interesting to do it without much thought and overthinking as it does clarify, at least to me, how I tend to view the shirts on first impressions.

I was thinking more of their limitations for casual wear rather than limitations for bus/formal. I really dislike the fine business shirt undone two buttons for outside work, either at nights, weekends or casual. I hugely dislike that look with a dark suit.

yup. The Black Stripe is definitely nightime, cocktail or whatever it would be called these days. Basically best worn open necked but would work fine with tie at cocktail or restaurant. (But really who wears a tie to a restaurant these days??)

Agree about stripes. Checks are good but chunky checks need a jacket to break up the grid and torso enlarging effects of a chunky check shirt. Not in favour of them with tie but it can be done ok. Trouble is these days too many boofheads think its cutting edge to wear one open necked with a dark suit or to pull out a solid coloured shiny satin tie and whack a full fist Windsor knot on a weird coloured check shirt. So best us real cognoscenti avoid the look lest we be grouped with the "edgy" sheep.

I found it extremely difficult to join the conversation being new here at SF. Everytime I put up a post I was reminded that because I am new it needs to go through the screening process to make sure I am " human"... I don't know who invent this process but it is frustrating because my post would then show up 24 hours after.

I would be lucky to get any response...

And no, I don't want to stack up my posts just for the sake of it.

end of rant. and thanks for listening...

I feel your pain flexiflex; this is a hot button on the Constructive Ideas to Improve the Forum thread lately. Maybe you should get over there and add your voice to the outcry.

And welcome to the Australian Members thread. We're much nicer and more stylish than everyone else. :)

Any of you guys have experience with Vass; after having a 2 month long fetish over at their thread I feel like Vass is the most 'Bang-for-Buck' shoe a 'shoe-aficionado' can get.
BTW
Anyone listen to hip hop? Haven't in a long while; but got back into it as a friend bought me an album; anyone hear good kid, maad city by kendrick lamar?
