My advice is actually the other way around....invest more in the shoes rather than the suit. An ill fitting suit can be fixed by a competent tailor ( to a degree). Not so for an ill fitting shoes. I'll fitting shoes can actually make you ill...:not so for an ill-fitting suit

Gents,

I visited the BB store in DJs Queens Plaza today, turns out I knew the Oroton rep from way back. Anyway, they currently have an introductory stock list which is to be expanded in the coming weeks. There were a couple of red fleece ($700-800), 1818 (Milano, $1500), Saxxon wool (Regent, $2K+), and a couple of Fitzgeralds. The shirts were almost exclusively non-iron Malaysian made ($115-130). They had one shirt style (pink and silver check) shirt from the Egyptian cotton line at $225. Only two OCBD's in a window pane were in the extra slim cut so nothing was worth trying. The ties were underwhelming, some had a rather stiff interlining but some had a nice drape (~$100). All tipped three fold. Very small selection of PS and bow ties. Supima sweaters were ~$100.

So the prices aren't quite on par with the US, but they aren't extreme either.

The stock of suits and jackets will be expanded, as well the more formal wears. It seems they wanted to get all the casual wear out first, understandably. All the Malaysian made garments come direct from the factory, but there are some US/Italian made items which came direct from NYC (there were JFK stickers on the boxes).

I also asked about semi-annuals sales events and the response was that it would be more in-line with DJ's sales rather than BB's sales.

They currently haven't made any arrangements with a local tailor for adjustments yet and they are sharing the fitting room. I think the plan was to get rooms exclusively for BB.

The overall impression I got was that they are going to wait and see how the market reacts, with several plans in place depending on sales.

Cheers,
HPH

Today I think I've had the best day op shopping that I can remember. I've schlepped far and wide, and managed to come home with the kind of loot that would make Spoopoker or Nataku green with envy.

So what did I find?

Suits
Isaia x 2
Brioni
Holland and Sherry Mayfair dinner suit (the real thing, not just H&S cloth)
Gucci

Sports Coats
Brioni
Bijan pure cashmere

Pants
Bijan x 5, including one pure silk
Pal Zileri

Ties
Charles Hill x 2
Borrelli
RT BoC

Shirts
Stefano Ricci x 5
Brioni business shirts x 14
Brioni silk sports shirts x 3
Lanvin x 2
Canali Exclusive
Finamore MTO x 2
Bijan x 3 (one of them formal)
Zegna x 3
Asole & Bottoni linen
Fabio Caviglia silk

This was all big guy stuff. The suits and SCs are 44L except the Gucci which is 40R. The shirts are mostly 17.5/44. Pants are 38-40.

Most of this stuff is in very good to excellent condition. You guys get first dibs. If you are interested in some of it, send me a PM. Once I get photos, I will be putting them up on the Thrift thread.

Hello Aussies, just thought I'd drop by and say hello. I've been a member for a while, though I really joined a while ago and just became active. I live in Newcastle and love classic clothing. Good to see there's a healthy aussie contingent.

Cheers,

Peter

"Canberra: Why wait for death?" was Bill Bryson's blistering judgement in his 2000 travelogue Down Under.

"Pyongyang without the dystopia," was the verdict of the Economist in 2009.

If Sydney is brash and bold, and Melbourne is cool and classy, then Canberra, at least in the Australian public imagination, is dull and devoid of soul.

"Canberra: it's not that bad" is the suggested slogan for car licence plates in the capital city. Talk about damning with faint praise.

"My friend put it well - Canberra is like going to grandma's house," says Jenna Clarke, life and entertainment editor of the Canberra Times. "Other Australian cities are doing brash, creative things but here everything is wrapped in plastic. It doesn't mean it's bad. Canberra is just very mature and knows what it's doing."

Is it really that bad? I've been thinking about Canberra as an option to progress my career. Mrs isn't keen on Sydney and there are a lot of opportunities there.
