Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am trying a second hand P Johnson cotton jacket on tomorrow. If it fits I will take it. If not, I will walk over to Herringbone and try their two cotton jackets. If none of those are a go, I will try Sports Craft et al. I like the Boglioli jackets Pink Socks, but they are outside of my price range at this stage.
I've got the current season Sportscraft unlined cotton jacket in navy. Got it on sale plus a few vouchers which made it an ok deal. At $299 full retail I don't think it's a good deal. I dislike the amount of padding on the shoulder (just personal preference) and the armholes are unsurprisingly a bit low IMO. But I like the fact it's unlined, is otherwise inoffensive and was easier than buying online. Instant gratification FTW...

I think you'll find the women were asking for it. Dressing like prostitutes and ********** out of wedlock [/sarcasm]

In other news, took delivery of my first pair of shell cordovan shoes yesterday. Will be interesting to see how they break in, but first impressions are great.

Pics or it didn't happen

I know, you've been good to me. Speaking of which, those Meermins are burgundy, right? And a leather sole?

Yeah. Meermin seems to have two shades of 'marron'. One which is brown the other burgundy. Sole is danite, actually.

His DB looked great.

Hey journeyman,
I'd like some sizing advise for sports coats as my body type is similar to your's (bigger-man

) , what brand gives you the best OTR fit so only minimal money is spent on tailoring?
Having trouble getting something that fits in the shoulders and is not super tight.

Thanks
P.S. Looking sharp as a tac :)

I think that $350 for an odd jacket is excellent value, if it fits well. Herringbone's jackets are quite well made and I've got four or five of them.
Depending on your personal preferences (and I don't want to turn you into someone who is obsessive about such details), you might want to check the lapel buttonhole on the Herringbone odd jackets because, in the past, some of the cotton jackets had "keyhole" lapel buttonholes, rather than straight cut buttonholes. Some people don't mind that at all, but I have a strong preference for straight cut lapel buttonholes.
Another option is to go into your local Polo Ralph Lauren store and try on some of their Polo made-in-Italy suits or jackets (which are made by Corneliani) and then see what you can find on eBay, as you can typically get new-with-tags (NWT) Polo clothing on eBay for 25-50% of what it retails for here.

Good to hear you endorse the Herringbone sports coat. If you bought it, and it fell apart, or you felt that it didn't live up to its expectation, I would have liked to have known. Seeing as it didn't do anything of those things, it sounds good. Dartagnan Red is quite a fan of the Corneliani Ralph Lauren jackets/suits. There are none on ebay at the moment.

Sounds like a good idea MS. If you do decide to look at Boglioli etc I am pretty sure you can find something on sale at yoox or farfetch within your price range and it will be better than something you could get here at similar price.
This was my original post with the links -
http://www.styleforum.net/t/88856/australian-members/9950_50#post_5182308
and I got my most recent one here for under $300 delivered (after doing a search for promo code and finding a free delivery one) - http://www.farfetch.com/shopping/sale/men/boglioli/items.aspx

Pink Socks, I read through your earlier posts. The ones where you felt guilty as all hell using Henry Bucks as a sizing station. I did for my shoes, so don't feel guilty at all. There are plenty of wealthy people out there that don't have time to read up on style and brands, but they want a place where they know they can go to get great quality clothing, knowing full well that it is marked up. Henry Bucks serves its purpose.

A lot of Boglioli jackets are 3 buttoned - very short lapels. I think I am still coming around to this style. I will keep the name at the back of my head. The quality looks incredible.

TehBunny, have you tried Bone and Bale - as Rob alluded to? I found out that they have quite a lot of jackets in-stores that they don't have online. So even though both companies look sparse online, they aren't in-store.

I am going to Herringbone Macquarie Place to try on the Metro cotton jacket, tomorrow morning. Then, I will go to Myers to try on this P Johnson jacket, then I will walk down to the Herringbone Warehouse where they have about 4-5 different cotton jackets in my size. They are last seasons jackets, but they are probably worth checking out - $200-$500 a jacket. MJ Bale has no jackets on sale (sports coats), they are all upwards of $400. So I will check out 3 places and work out which one I prefer. If I get time I will pop in and check out the Ralph Lauren jackets JM mentioned.

You are spending a lot of time analysing whether $350 is money well spent or not.
