Checked them out, best I've found so far is P Johnson for $35. Just seeing if I can do any better.

I doubt you'll beat that, as the shipping will probably negate any savings obtained by ordering from online boutiques.

I'm suprised there's so few around. What happens if you go for a job and your interviewer notices your pocket square is neither Irish nor hand rolled?

I'm just concerned some of the newer members here will think they can go out and get the kind of "bargains" (is it still a bargain if it took you 5 weekends and a tank of gas to find it?) that the old China hands like fxh can boast of. I'm sure for every dirt cheap Herringbone suit there is a pair of meerkats in his wardrobe that he hasn't had time to return yet because he's out on the hunt for the pre-loved sartorial holy grail.
No offence ;-)

Really well written post. It sings songs with me. It is refreshing reading great posts.

By the way, I tried my Henry Carter ties on today. I have worn 3 ties in my life. 2 Tarocash ties that are 100% polyester and made in China, and 1 old Christian Dior silk tie that I got from Vinnies about 7 years ago, which feels like it is about to fall apart.

Chalk and Cheese. Chalk and Cheese. The HC ties are just out of this world - relative to my 3 other ties :). The difference in the structure of the knot, how the tie sits and the feel of the fabric is very noticeable.

I guess, if there are any other kids out there that are starting work for the first time, I think HC classic ties at $60 are the way to go. I saw some ties at the MJ Bale store that were on special for $40. The HC ties feel much better than those MJ Bale ties. For only $20 more, I think it is well worth it.

Well done Jason, you have a new fan.

Keeping in mind that only a little of the handkerchief is showing when stuffed into a chest pocket:

How do you tell Irish linen from any other linen without feeling it?

When looking at someone's pocket, how would you identify a hand rolled handkerchief from one that is machine rolled? How close to you need to be to be able to tell?

Gentlemen,
I'm looking to pick a loafer with the following specifications:
1. Penny/Loafer w/ Tassles
2. Dark brown leather
3. Sleek, elongated last with chisled toe.
Any thoughts would be great.
Cheers

Hey guys,

Following SF for awhile, thought it'd be easier if I joined up.

Melbourne transplant living in rural Victoria at the moment, let's just say I think 'dressing up' in this part of the world is what most SF'ers would deem casual.

:)

Also, because I live near the desert, and there's already been about 5 35+ days, where can I get some decent linen shirts and or pants. Or seersucker.

Welcome! My view is that it's all in context for the occasion anyway.

For linen trousers, I've heard very good things about Howard Yount: http://www.howardyount.com/collections/linen-pants

Out of interest, what is your budget - that would help people who are offering you suggestions.

From memory, most of English-made tassell loafers have a more rounded toe, rather than a chiselled toe, so a European maker might be a better bet.

I don't know if they will be to your taste, but these Sutor Mantellassi loafers from Ian Daniels at Shop the Finest are an excellent deal:
