Had a good day - Had to venture out into hardcore hipster territory - Thornbury, Brunswick, Northcote - coffee an cake in Fairfield, managed to avoid CERES, (more CERES)so I called into a clothing warehouse sale for relief.

Despite having to dodge myriad young women inked up in all visible areas, bearded blokes with pants drooping at the crotch, like pooey nappies, and the odd post 30 yo hippy I had a great haul.

Made in USA Brooks Bros Uni stripe OCBD cotton shirt - seems unworn and unwashed.
LL Bean Made in USA Checked OCBD, seems unworn and unwashed.
and
the best of all -
A CRICKETEER - 3 roll 2, - 3" lapels, Navy blazer, hopsack open weave, patch and flap hip pockets, slightly swelled edges all round, half lined only, hooked back vent, no darts, the real thing from Ivy era 60s - no signs of wear at all. A bit crushed and scrunched but will freshen up noice. Only suspect issue is metal buttons - might swap them out for brown horn or nut.

Cost = $10 each item = $30 all up.

Cost of coffee and cake x 2 = $15

try 28 degrees mastercard or bankwest mastercard. Their rates are about 0.2% from spot and no forex fees etc.

Why would you want to avoid CERES? It's beautiful, it has good food and it's pretty interesting to walk around and see what's happening.

Just thought I'd bump my group buy from Valmour again. I'll try and place the order on Wednesday, so if anyone wants any Saphir products on the cheap let me know.

Toby- how are the ties going? Ready for order?

I think Moriarty wears Vivienne Westwood in Sherlock.

Back from a nice mothers day lunch at Chowder bay. Heard the most amazing story from my father in law. About 6 months ago he left a fairly new MTM Zegna suit (that he forked over about $5k for) in Sydney airport arrivals. Spent weeks chasing lost property etc.. to no avail. Last week gets a call out of the blue from Zegna with the number of a guy in the Blue Mountains that has the suit.
Turns out the guy used to cut for Zegna in Europe a few years ago. He saw the suit in Vinnies or similar and bought it for pennies. Luckily he didn't really like the fit. My father in law's name was written inside one of the pockets. Realising it was a very new suit and thinking it strange to find it in a thrift shop the guy called Zegna Sydney asking if they knew the owner. Two phone calls later, and all was sorted.
Needless to say the guy was handsomely rewarded when they met up a few days later!

And fear not, I did explain to him that for $5k he really should be going bespoke and supporting local industry......

Nice, man. Looking forward to some pics of the tassel loafers once you wear them in! smile.gif

Re: that bag, I'd be inclined to save a bit longer and spend on a Filson bag as that's a blatant copy of one. Gerry has the Filson if I'm not mistaken, and at the risk of speaking for someone else, I think he'd feel the same. With an item that gets as much use as a daily bag, it's best to spend more once off than replace it every 10-12 months, IMO.

I've had the same bag for 4.5 years now and I get compliments on it almost daily. It's been through rain, hail, snow, everywhere. I've had to do nothing to look after it and I can see myself using it for many, many more years.

Here's the bag, and me:

When you have nice bag, you make big smile.

TBM said it very well. I enjoy my Filson everytime I use it. It constantly surprises me at how much it's able to store without looking stuffed and the canvas is getting softer as time goes by. As far as a briefcase goes, it's no SAB or Glaser but it suits my purposes perfectly and just gets better the more I use it.
