Plestro - I think you'll find my recent paper "Australian Ivy Dandy/Peacock": A Contradiction, Post Modern Avant-garde Performance or Cyber Anarcho Cynicism puts a convincing argument and demolishes Fink and Mao (1999) showing they are nothing but a naive attempt by parvenu trained in economics and quants (ie idiots with spreadsheets) to gain entree into a rarefied world of experience, knowledge and sophistication beyond their possible reach.

How would one measure the correct height a cuff length pair of pants should be when wearing chelseas?

Also, if you could only own one black tie rig would it be in black or midnight blue?

They're useful. Flusser says it should sit "just lightly on the shoe". How could you determine this height in a chelsea? (all I'm going to have tomorrow :(

Depends on the heel height of each shoe.
But then a chelsea isn't a shoe. (and I'll bet yours is an RM)
With boots you need higher/shorter inseam.
But then they are too high for shoes.
Also depends on cuff opening.
Wider opening generally means longer inseam and vice versa with narrow opening.
And then there is personal preference.
And don't forget SF group think.

Good night all. I'm off to bed.

Given they're physicists its more like cobbled together ancient fortran ffffuuuu.gif. Seriously tho I was only using it as it provides a good way to refer to each element of knot.

That would be the one published by the Australian Institute for Public Satorialism as part of their monographic series "Vamp"? Well researched and convincingly argued. Particularly pleasing was your demolition of the anti-hosiery obscurantists of the Naples school. Your praise of the single hook vent and natural shoulders was a touch neo-mercantalist/imperialist for my tastes, but impeccably stated.

Unless you have pants dedicated to wearing with your boots, and others dedicated to wearing with shoes, I would have thought the pant length should be the same for both? If you're question is about how to measure them when you're wearing chelseas, yeah that's not ideal as it's harder to gauge how they would look with shoes; just use your imagination or wait until you can wear your dress shoes to a fitting I suppose.

Most men only own one black tie rig, seeing as it's the least worn attire in the wardrobe (unless you're an ambassador or professional ribbon-cutter). So as to which one you should go for, it's entirely a matter of personal preference - both are equally acceptable. I prefer midnight blue, mainly because it tends to look better than black under flourescent lighting.

Having said all that, unless you wear it more than 10 times a year, personally I'd hire one as needs be, or buy a black/midnight suit you can also get some daytime wear out of. You're in Newcastle, so it's not like anyone will notice! ;-)

Ha! I hadn't thought of that, as I usually only go sockless on rare occasions with cotton trousers (which is exactly what I'm doing today, with a pair of beige chinos and a pair of blue suede driving mocs) and the plaid trousers pictured above are wool, with quite an open weave.

By the way, I'm intrigued by your reason for posting a picture of what appears to be amazake.

good news got trousers back from tailor - he tapered and cuffed my trousers to 1.5inch. Wow cuffed trousers have blown my mind, i dont know how i lived without this simple alteration.

btw messina special this week (salted caramel gelato with gianduia fudge, fresh meringue and amaretti biscuit)
