On a more serious note, I don't know if you can actually get dainite conversions. But it may be useful to know that there is a dainite version of Loake's Aldwych too (like Nabil's Hallams).

I have to be realistic - I'm on my feet all day, between the office, courts, shitty lunches etc. Leather soles are going to be brutalised.

My main thing is I'm looking at the Loake Buckingham as a mainstay which doesn't seem to have a dainite version :(

Put some Topy on it and it will turn into an excellent beater.

I have the exact shoe and colour you are thinking of getting. They work wonders.

I have to agree (sorry op). Fair isle is not for warm sunny climates like where that pic looks like it was taken. If you must, I think it looks odd in almost all settings apart from the country where there is a chance of snow falling or very bleak climates. Which pretty much narrows it down to either the snowies here in nsw, the alpine areas of victoria or tassie. I wouldnt even wear it in canberra.

Dainite will be harder on your feet than leather, though obviously better in the wet. If it's longevity you are after then a Topy is your best bet - that or a large enough collection of shoes that you needn't wear any of the pairs out...

Those Loakes quoted look like my Carmina captoes. Anyone know how they fit? I need some new Dainites (im anti-topy and yes i refuse to topy and no I dont want a debate)

Just copped these AirMax 90's yesterday for the SW&D fans.. the menswear fans can eye-ball one level of the brown side of my shoe rack in the background lol8[1].gif

Jase cant believe how cheap that champagne with navy stripe tie is... looks great - I think you should do a WIWT post with this on a navy suit

Thanks for your reply.
I live in Victoria (that picture was taken this afternoon) and I have problems with circulation (at 15 degrees my hands go blue) so I'm looking for heavy weight wool. I thought a Shetlands knitted jumper would do the trick.
I understand fair isle isn't to everyones taste which is fine, but this is more about being practical (I also happen to really like the patterns)

MJ Bale had some Fair Isle sweaters in stock last year. Maybe keep an eye out there this winter.

Where did you get your dainites done or did they just come with the shoe? I know you don't want a debate but could you please explain your preference? I'm tossing up myself.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out.

Do you happen to remember how much they cost?

Nah my dainite in the past come with the shoe

Topy is personal preference and probably the best option available for someone in Australia extending shoe life.. It's just not for me and I don't want to initiate another debate
