It's disappointing to see that Ethan has also jumped on the "over-sprezzed" bandwagon, and that he's wearing the tail of his tie over the front blade:

It's not "sprezz" if you do it deliberately, people!

I am increasingly avoiding SF, and this exemplifies why. The anal-retentive rule following and boring, conservative mentalities rip all the joy out of dressing. The amount of times I have heard men in gray suits and black shoes tell me what I should be wearing and why leaves me depressed. Many of the people involved in this industry truly enjoy what they do, they love dressing and there is a definite creative buzz when working with others in the industry. The 'clothing enthusiasts' come along and tell us how we should be wearing our clothing, never bothering to consider that we are not them, we are not trying to express what they express. It is like classical musicians telling a jazz musician that their music is wrong, their expression wrong, because they don't follow the rules that others confine themselves to.
Lighten the fuck up. Does it really bother you that my tie isn't straight? Do you really think you know how comfortable I would be in heavy cotton, speaking from a different country? Do you think you know our inspirations for dressing, when we live completely different lives, with vastly different career paths, social circles and even different cultures?

^ I just don't think you look very good in that photo. Whether it's right or wrong, I don't know or care, but you certainly don't look good in that photo IMO.

Man, my reality doesn't even include you.

There's joy and enthusiasm in this thread, Ethan.

We have our moments, as is the case with all online forums.

Gold!

Reminds me of the scene between Michael and Don Draper in Mad Men.

Michael: I feel bad for you

Don: I don't think about you at all

Yeah, I think you're really overreacting here, Ethan. By posting photos of yourself on the internet, you open yourself up to positive and negative feedback, like it or not.

Journeyman's comment re your tie was his opinion, and expressed fairly mildly and jovialy by SF standards. You may not agree with it, but it doesn't warrant that diatribe up there.

This. Quite a few members here, myself include for the part, have little or nothing to do with other parts of SF.

The atmosphere here is usually friendly and informative, but occasionally, like a bar at the end of a busy night, it can get a little out of hand and the bouncers need to step in.

I thought Styleforum was just diatribes these days?

Usually this thread is one of the few refuges on SF that remains free from such people (with the exception of certain members who shall remain Unnamed). The criticism here is almost always constructive and not mean-spirited.

The worst we get here is people getting annoyed at the same old questions being asked on a monthly cycle... something we are all guilty of at times.

Protip: When aggressively telling someone to "lighten the fuck up", remember to take your own advice.
