Would cotton be acceptable in an Australian business/work environment though or would nobody know the difference?

Cotton suits are not cool (temp). Linen is what you wear in summer or super light weight wools that act like linen.

Garry would you be kind enough to post some picture of you shoe cabinet.
Also if any of you are using any clever shoe storage please share.

Nothing clever, just two of these next to each other, one with two shelves and one with three:

On the ground below the bottom rack are various shoe boxes filled with socks, shoe bags and shoe polishing supplies (you can fit up to 3 shoe boxes underneath). The lowest and middle shelves take three pairs of shoes each (stored in shoe bags to avoid dust from the shoes above). On the top shelf, I have shoes in shoe boxes (up to two layers) and then a pair of shoes or boots on top of the shoe boxes. I also have some in boxes in another cupboard. The system works well for me.

Nothing like this, though:

ive got built in shelves - about 4 meters long, 3 levels. I think they are suppose to be for books. I use the bottom two levels for my shoes and the top level i use for documents/folders etc. Perfect shoe-depth

Henry Bucks used to sell them for around $15.

Thanks, CD. I'll have to see if I can pop in on Saturday to see if there's anything worthwhile left.

On a related note, if any Brisbane-based members are interested, Joel Barlow's ill-gotten gains are being auctioned this Sunday (?).

For those of you outside Queensland, Barlow was an employee of Qld Health who decided to style himself as a Tahitian prince. Of course, a prince needs money and so he started to defraud his employer by creating a few companies of his own and having them invoice Qld Health for various services (that they had, of course, not rendered). Coincidentally, Barlow just happened to work in the section of Qld Health that processed such invoices... Anyway, his fraud was finally uncovered, but not before he had successfully obtain some $16 million from his employer and used it to purchase a couple of luxury apartments, sports cars, artworks, and a whole container-ship-load of trashy luxury goods. In fact, I suspect that the local LV and Gucci boutiques probably made their budget based solely on his expenditure there.

An auction catalogue can be seen here: http://auctions.leonardjoel.com.au/asp/searchresults.asp?st=D&pg=1&ps=25&sale_no=LJ5797+

Amongst the stuff being auctioned are a few fountain pens and some paintings and books, but most of the stuff is pretty awful - the entire range of LV luggage/bags/wallets (all in canvas, unfortunately, rather than leather), about twenty pairs of rather unattractive LV shoes, a lot of unattractive fashion sneakers and a whole lot of other tacky stuff, including a life-size statue of a black horse with a lamp sticking out of its head.

It's Friday y'all. What's everyone doing for the weekend?

I'm going to be bettering my two day record and wearing my O&J Popover 3 days in a row. Love that thing. Should've bought extra.

Crikey! Off-line for a bit and a whole discussion on music unfolds. I am quite ADHD when it comes to music - so I often like to hear about what other people are listening to and chase it down.

I tend to have about a dozen CDs on the go that I cycle through the player. Some currnet faves: Paul Meyer's recording of Copland Clarinet Concerto, Midnight at the Movies by Justin Townes Earl, The recent re-issue of Rumours, Sharon Jones 100 Days, 100 nights.

Also like to listen to Australian artists. We have so much great music in this country, wish I had more time to get out and listen to it - I am currently enjoying Jonathan Zwart's (Sydney jazz bassist) new album The Rembereing and Forgetting of the Air, The Bamboos' Medicine Man (which is a heap of fun) and Jordie Lane's Blood Thinner, for example.

I received a rather exciting call from Rene at Deer Style yesterday, as a jacket and three shirts that I ordered have arrived.

Rene's got a few photos up on his Tumblr blog and more photos on the Deer Style Facebook page, if anyone is interested.

The jacket looks warm, but is actually made from a crisp, airy, 7 or 7.5 oz cloth with plenty of breathability, and is buggy-lined as well, so it should serve me well in the Brisbane summer.

The shirts are made from Acorn cloth that I ordered directly from Acorn and handed over to Rene to have them made up.
