On the check shirts, I have to admit I recently acquired a green check shirt from mj bale and I struggled to match a tie with it.

Could be the informal-ness of the shirt as fxh stated or simply my lack of ability in matching ties.

^^ Navy grenadine with a blue suit/jacket could work, or something like a brown w/ white polka dot? If you have a link/photo of the shirt I could probably be more specific or definite in a recommendation. Depends on a lot of things like check size, shade of green etc. Some greens pick up blue well, some pick up brown and are more 'muddy' for want of a better word... Either way green check falls into casual territory IMO so you'll probably want to go for a more casual tie and jacket to complement it.

Or, if it's all too hard, ditching the tie can be a much lesser sartorial crime than wearing the wrong one.

Well fellas, early this morning we welcomed our beautiful little girl Edith Mary in to the world. She was 7lb 1oz abd 48cm. What a full on and amazing experience! Us blokes really have it esy.

For anyone that has an order in place, please bear with me for a couple of days but they should all be out by tues.

OTOH fine almost indistinguishable checks lines on a shirt are superb. The shirt that looks solid white or blue or pink until you get close and then you see the thin pink or red or blue or grey line checks. Even a check up close-ish in size to gingham sometimes works with jacket and tie. But its harder to do and a lot of people just throw it on to "be different"

Great post thanks. Copied and saved. I also really like the pale checks on shirts.

Continuing from lachyzees convo, I really think its about time I get my tailor to make me a shirt ($150 ish), then send away for some exact replicas. Those pants lachyzee do look great.

Sent a tie to Tiecrafters in NYC to be widened while I was on holidays recently - they get back to me two weeks later (after I had arrived back in Australia - I had told them that I was going to be back home by the time they'd finished the work) telling me to send them the money by way of cash or cheque - they do not accept credit card or paypal... grrr. It's 2013....
