Petepan - I would get calf instead of shell. I love shell, but for a classic black dress shoe, well-cared-for calf is more appealing, IMHO..

Calories in vs out. Wow, who'd have thought?! LOL.

That's how I lost weight.

In the classic words of a certain nameless politician "Please Explain" smile.gif

I was aiming for shell mainly for reasons of care and longevity.  Are you referring to differences in the bronzing/aging of the different materials?

Want to lose weight? Calories in < calories out.

If you want to go further, count your macros and go for a usual 40/40/20 split. Hell, even go for a 40/30/30 split if you want to.

brb not consuming the primary source of my body's energy
brb the majority of dieticians in this country are retarded
brb implying losing/gaining weight isn't just simple math

I'm guessing you are young and skinny. Good for you.

Calories are bullshit. Aren't they measured by setting fire to the food and seeing by how much a given amount of water is heated by? Not exactly a good proxy for the human body.

Once most people get past a certain age (for me it happened at 35) they tend to find that sugar and carbs play havoc with fat deposition. This is due to the way sugar (all carbs are really just different forms of sugar) effects your insulin levels, which in turn affect the way your body lays down fat.

I agree that the time of day is irrelevant, but avoiding simple carbs and thus keeping insulin levels low and stable will make most people lose weight without needing to count calories. I for one can eat an obscene amount of meat and vegetables, avoid carbs and still drop a few kilos.

There's more than one way/method/system/diet to lose weight, and, since none of us are qualified dieticians, it's probably not appropriate to recommend one as "the best".

What is the best denim shop in Melbourne, then? Uptherestore? Incu? With all all the Japanese we have here, I'd think there must be some stores stocking Japanese denim and catering to that market.

I have some black shell (in a full brogue) and, whilst I like it, I agree that calf is better for a formal black captoe. For me the real appeal of shell is the lustre you get in the #8, cigar and similar colours. You don't get that in black.

You do, however, get a fairly glossy finish all over. Some have said this looks a bit plasticky. I wouldn't go that far, in fact I like the easy-care nature of it, but I think for a very formal shoe the sublty of calf is a bit nicer.

Also, small point...the thickness of the hide creates an slight indentation around the joins such as the lace holes. Calf is "flatter". And, finally, with shell, you're going to get waves - youve gotta be okay with waves.

Its a close run thing. I have a pair of cap toes in cigar shell. I love them - mostly for the colour. Still think, if I went the same shoe in black it would be calf.

As others have mentioned, this is overly simplistic. Whilst clearly you will lose weight if you have a calorie deficit it is completely incorrect to assume all methods of consuming calories are created equal. If what you eat has a high GI (note this does not necessarily mean individually high GI foods) then you *will* trigger an inappropriate insulin response and thus the calories you consume after this will be more likely to be deposited as fat. You will then also get a rebound affect from the insulin spike causing you to feel more hungry than you should and likely then overeat. All of which means you then need more 'calories out' than you would have done, and shifting deposited fat is trickier than avoiding depositing it in the first place.

Whats a macro? saw you and Oli talk about it

im not a dietician but the no carbs at night worked for me and my wife. Perhaps all it did was reduce the calorie value of my dinners 5 nights a week but i dont have time to check calories etc so its a simple "rule" to follow - perhaps everyone just needs to find something that works in their lifestyle.

I was 88kg 12 months ago and im 80-81kg today (depending on time etc)

I dont really have a goal but if i drop perhaps 2 more kg ill be happy and look to maintain or even put some size back on my upper body via exercise
