I was hoping there'd be a brown (remember him mentioning it to me), otherwise maybe a blacker colour.

The red and green are cool, but a touch too gaudy for ole LonerMatt

There is supposed to be a brown. I was originally after the green but now I'm leaning towards the grey.

I will just chose what you chose Gerry!

Think Christian was planning unlined but not sure. Hopeful he will post about them here (though I need to get in touch with him anyway so will ask him to).

fxh - given your fondness for pictures of stylish classic movie stars/musicians etc you should check out http://theimpossiblecool.tumblr.com/ if you have not done so already. Though I am sure Google Images serves you well.

I quite like the casual style of the guy who runs it, Sean Sullivan - http://williamyan.com/blog/tag/sean-sullivan

Reading over my Chukkas post above I realise what a menswear geek I am (because looking on a website called "Style Forum" regularly did not clue me up to that already).

Finally I have a flyer for 50% off storewide at Gant 26th-28th December which I will post here when I get the chance.

Since our tastes and feet are similar, I thought we could just buy the one pair and take turns. Being a fiduciary should appeal to your finely honed Scottish fiscal sensibilities :)

Does anyone other than Rob, have a Fox umbrella?

Is there much of a difference between an umbrella made from one piece of timber and an umbrella that has the handle attached to the shaft?

I've ordered one - it should be here sometime in January. Are you planning on getting one, Michael?

I've got one (from Pasotti via Deer Style) and I love its appearance and the fact that the handle is carved from a single piece of wood, but I don't think that it is better than a two-piece, or a steel shaft, umbrella in any practical sense.

If you do want a single-piece umbrella, get in touch with Rene at Deer Style as I suspect he'll give you a good price and shipping should be cheaper as it will be domestic.

Otherwise, Howard Yount has a good range of full-stick and also steel shaft umbrellas and they usually don't charge too much for shipping from the US.

JM, how would you go about comparing the pros and cons of Howard Yount or Pasotti over say, Fox?

You want solid wood

Key differences are
1) stemmed are lighter and I think 2 inches less diametre
2) full stick much more sturdy esp in wind
3) full stick will last longer
4) full stick has a nicer tip

I regret getting my stemmed one
