I'd say that many of the American posters often look fussy and contrived. But its in a different way. David is dressed more "English" but thats also unsurprising as he is from a UK tailoring background.
I'm curious as to what other Australians would see in this photo. I'm not so much concerned with individual items but more in overall impressions of acceptability, costume vs well dressed, trying too hard etc. Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I'd note that its a very American notion to see this kind of fussy and contrived as something to avoid at all costs. Notwithstanding that many of the preferred American dress styles as evidenced on forum threads are in themselves fussy and contrived.
I think it looks great, FXH. Better than the Christmas-trees-of-tweed look.

Picked up a new P Johnson piece today. Trying out the latest Loro Piana 3ply blue-grey weave s120s. Open weave super light and its navy with a grey thread. Matte yet lustrious.

Fully handfinished, half lined, notch lapels, soft shoulder, welt/flap pockets, kissing buttons, button fly, 2inch cuff and the best touch...

Patrick added some camo pocket detailing as a little surprise (he knows me well)

LOVE the camo detailing.. ill try to get a better picture tomorrow

I think the weight - in particular - is genuinely out of place here - thats why I was curious to hear what others thought and interested in overall impressions rather than details.
I suspect if it was a slightly lighter weight (btw I think that most Oz suits are too fine /light these days - I've seen some respected forum brands second hand - they don't wear {longevity and drape/fall} well - they wear well in terms of hot climate) and grey or navy it wouldn't be a problem here.
I'm not sure about "not for business" here - outside a very very narrow range of businesses/fields (or possibly even companies) any suit and tie is "dressed up"
Any one else care to chime in?

It's very English. Straight lines, sharp silhouette. Quite different from the soft shouldered Neapolitan style preferred by the iGentry. It's also very well cut, which a lot of American suits aren't.

I can see how this might jar a little on this forum.

No problem - I didn't know whether to post here or not since there weren't too many shoe shots. For the record, I came away with nothing but a smile on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling smile.gif
