Think it isn't as easy as 'good fabric'.

For instance, my Sic Tess and T Mason oxfords are generally a dream to iron compared to the Alumo poplins.

OTOH, my white shirt in 2-fold 80s Alumo poplin is much easier to iron than the white shirt in 2-fold 120s Sic Tess oxford.

Then again, my two patterned Sic Tess oxfords (also 120s) are easier to iron than said 80s Alumo poplin.

Many a time, you have to trust your shirtmaker to give you an accurate lowdown on what you're buying. As Charles Nakhle often says, certain cloths 'love' the iron.

 

Good point. I guess it is out with the fabric softener.

if anyone wears Extra Large (17.5collar) shirting Id be happy to do a very special price on the Owen and James remaining stock. Otherwise I might cut them up and turn them into pocket squares 

 

Wow. Herringbone sure is selling a lot of stuff quickly! A $400 suit? That costs $1,200-$1,300 full price. Must be their version of click frenzy? It isn't even 'sale' time yet.

Are the collection suits fully canvassed? Can't tell which are the collection suits on the MJ Bale website.

I'm a large, tempting to chug a few burgers and cash in.

They only sell 2 collection suits online. They are both over $1,000.

 

They have at least 3 or 4 more in the shop. MJ Bale and Herringbone only put a limited range online.

I think i need a black cap toe oxford. C&J hallam or meermin or other?

I have the hallams - i think its a great shoe.

 

Have you thought about the C&J Westbourne's? Same last as the hallam's but a bit different. I can take a few "life" photos if you like

Herringbone used to have a "Warehouse sale" once or twice a year that would visit capital cities (well, at least Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as Sydney). It provided an excellent opportunity to pick up suits and jackets cheaply, and some people scored some great bargains when they sold off their "Cheaney for Herringbone" shoes a couple of years ago, too.

However, they haven't had such a sale outside Sydney for over a year now, which is unfortunate for the bargain-lovers who don't live in the harbour city!

In the one that they had last year, they were selling suits for $400 (I think), Italian- and Turkish-made chino pants for $50, and polo shirts and knitwear at knock-down prices, too.

Speaking of polo shirts (as I remember that both Kent Wang and RL Polo polo shirts were mentioned recently), the good thing about polo shirts from Kent Wang, Herringbone and MJ Bale is that they have so-called "shirt collars", that is, collars made from the same fabric as the body of the polo shirt, instead of the curly collars that most polo shirts have.

I picked up a few made-in-Italy polo shirts from MJ Bale last year and they are terrific - quite slim-cut, with a long placket, a shirt collar and smoked mother-of-pearl buttons. Highly recommended, particularly if you can get them on sale.

Mate I hate to pick on you but this is a silly question. Obviously C&J will exceed Meermin in terms of leather, build quality and of course price.

 

Your shoe choice is a matter of preference.

Meermin and C&J are at two very different price points.

If you're looking at C&J, I'd opt for Carmina. IMO, their styles are more elegant, and their finishing is superior.

Speaking of MJ Bale, I am seriously eying off the blue Xavier cotton suit... might head down to the Melbourne store in the hope they have some in stock. It looks like they have a few colours available, so I am thinking this might be an affordable way to quickly build out a summer suit wardrobe.

I ended up buying one. Really like it, but I had to size up due to pulling around the shoulders which meant getting the waist brought in. Definitely try it on before purchasing.

Out of interest, is the colour as bright and vibrant as the website?
