Why do you guys generally prefer woven over solid silk ties?

 

they're nicer imo but I tend to find they don't make a great knot. 

What do you mean by solid silk tie?

Went and picked them up from DHL directly today - turns out they attempted delivery yesterday, despite what the tracking system and customer service told me, when I rang today was advised they were at the depot. Took longer to get from Fyshwick to my hands (20k's tops) than they did from Heathrow to Sydney

 

I got the Perth in Cocoa Suede and Legate in Black Calf, both UK 10F. Progress report will be forthcoming next week

Haha i love it how people spot a Borelli or Brioni label and automatically assume its quality.

The Perth in suede would be a lovely shoe. And the Legate is a solid business choice. Congrats and look forward to your report!

I don't have any preference really, they all have there advantages depending on what you like. From a design perspective, woven give you more to play within terms of patterns etc, which the majority of the tie buying public like. Printed silk make up a tiny percentage of ties sold throughout the world really, and need a much tighter knot to stay in place but can be very beautiful, some of the prints around just can't be replicated with weaving. I've got a couple of really nice ones on the way in about a month, I'll see if I can dig out some swatch images when I'm in front of the pc later.

Solid silk ties (which are still technically woven, but I know what you mean) are ideal if you like to wear patterned shirts and suits and your right they do for whatever reason tend to dimple nicer, being a smoother weave I guess.

But theres no right or wrong with either, just what you prefer which you can only find out by trial and error. Everyone has different tastes and everyone ties knots differently, even if it's the same knot.

This is what all the cool kids will be wearing on Monday morning (well the left one at least).

true, true, I think the suit I found is from Brioni's Fused, poly/wool blend line.
