I will own horse arse leather one day, or I'll be a horse's arse!

thanks

Vox's (F. Cobera) posts in this thread are worth reading before going down the penny (or tassel for that matter) loafer road.

BTW dudes, I'm selling some ties here

Well I dunno, I actually sized down a half size on my Sperrys, on the basis that without socks you want a tighter fit. My big toe touches the end of the shoe as a result, but overall the fit is perf.

Goddamnit, now I want a pair of loafers and a pair of driving mocs and a new pair of boat shoes. You all suck.

So after some T&E I have finally come to the point where I am ready to place an order for a CottonWork shirt of decent quality. Since SF lacks a dedicated CottonWork thread, and several Aus members seem to have placed orders there, I thought I'd ask for advice here.

1. I'd love to see a real life picture of one of their collar shapes other than the cutaway collar. I think the cutaway is a bit too drastic for me but it's the only one I have experience with. I'll probably go with the spread or semi cutaway but keen to see pictures of each if anyone has any.

2. Any opinions on fabric collections (is the step up in cost worth it) or specific fabrics? Was thinking of going with the "EXECUTIVE
100% Sea Island Quality 2ply 100 to 120 threads" level. Is the step up to "Luxury" worth it? And, similarly, what about going all out for Thomas Mason etc? Never had any dress shirts above the brooks brothers level really (well, one Epaulet dress shirt).

I'm planning to order three basics to begin with: white herringbone, blue herringbone, mauve oxford. If anyone has ordered something along those lines i'd love to see a photo/hear your opinions. Quite hard to tell from the fabric pictures just which is sort of a normal basic herringbone weave.

In general, what fabrics have people ordered and what did they think of them?

Feel free to inbox me if you don't want to clutter up the main thread.

Cheers

I would actually recommend a different MTM website.

I ordered 3 MTM shirts, from Cottonwork, ModernTailor and Joe Button....

Overall, I was not particularly impressed with the CW offering. The fabric was average and the production time was about 6 weeks.

ModernTailor were much quicker, the shirt arriving in under 3 weeks and was of much nicer quality (and this was their trail shirt for $20)

Joe Button I only tried because of their groupon offer. The first shirt was way off but I got it remade and the measurements are good, nice quality but IMO not worth the extra price. Also, despite being an Australian based company, their shirts took the longest to arrive (perhaps this was the 2 step shipping)

I've just placed an order for Luxire. They look very promising and there is a decent thread about them on here.

I'm about to try Luxire for myself, too. I've used Tailorstore and Henry Herbert in the past and gotten excellent results.

Have received a few messages from members today, so thought I'd let the main thread know that the Aquila chukka boots were both snapped up overnight.

Luxire look alright, I wonder how long they will maintain that "introductory price", though. Their fabric range seems to be severely lacking at the moment. Not a classic blue herringbone or mauve colour in sight that I can see. They seems to have to have gone for the flashy stripes and checks before getting their basics covered (perhaps these ugly fabrics are the ones that can be had for such a cheap price).

It seems from their thread that they are adding fabrics at a reasonable clip, however. Still for that price and such a quick turnaround I might give it a try tonight before committing to cottonwork.

In unrelated news, while fitting myself up for these shirts I have realised that due to multiple collar bone breaks from footy my left shoulder is now at least a half inch shorter than my right and slopes considerable more satisfied.gif
