Upmarket retailer David Jones has revealed that British-based EB Private Equity has made a $1.65 billion takeover for 100 per cent of the Australian company.

David Jones confirmed a report published by BusinessDay this afternoon that EB Private Equity is the mystery bidder behind a takeover approach.

The company said in a statement to the ASX moments ago that the bid is based upon $850 million of equity provided by the EB Private Equity consortium, $450 million of lending provided by a syndicate of banks and investors and $450 million in residual equity for existing David Jones shareholders, a portion of which shall be underwritten.

David Jones this morning told the market it had received an approach from an unnamed UK group, a statement which sent the company's shares soaring almost 20 per cent.

David Jones ended the day up 33 cents, or 14.6 per cent, at $2.59.

The victim was not injured. Both men were described as of Caucasian appearance and slim to medium build.

One was about 180cm tall and was wearing black ugg boots, slim-fit coloured pants and a black zip-up jacket with a white hood. The men leaving the service station.

The other was about 175cm tall and was wearing light-coloured ugg boots, black tracksuit pants, a black balaclava and a black zip-up hooded top.

I unfortunately shrunk a pair of my cotton slacks recently and I've decided they are too short even for the 2" cuff no break look, which got me thinking on the topic...

That's a shame about the shrinkage. I suffer the same whenever I get out of a cold pool..

I go for 6cm cuffs and no break, and have done so for about 3-4 years now. It's not to everyone's taste, but I like it for now.

Order arrived from A Fine Pair of Shoes in 2 weeks.  Also order the Corgi socks and some flat shoe laces.

For those of you still not converted, take it from someone who has polished his shoes for 30 years that this product is outstanding.  I have several shoes from the Church's range from Herrings.  Have never been entirely happy with the polish, they were always a bit 'flat' in their presentation.  Friday night, at home chilling, I put the Saphir to work and all my shoes including some old C&Js, and Lobb's have come back to life and look fantastic.  Any of you sitting on the fence regarding shoe shine, sit no longer, bite the bullet and spend the coin on a terrific product that does what you want it to do.  The new flat laces also look good.  Am heading back to FP of S for the Saphir Presentation box Im so impressed.  Oh and Im not on the FP of S payrol and received no free endorsments!!!  Shoe polishing is addictive....!!

hey guys,

bit of a noob to polishing shoes. What are your routines and how often? Atm, i do :

1. brush off dust and dirt.
2. Apply saphir renovateur
3. Allow renovateur to dry and brush off.
4. Apply saphir cream polish.
5. Dry, brush off and buff.

I do hate that cream polish leaves a dull/matte look. Is waxing recommended for the whole shoe or will just the toe-box do?

How often should renovateur and the cream polish be used? i've seen contradicting answers :S some even recommend renovateur once every 6 months

I go for 5cm cuffs, but quite often and thanks to my dangly legs, there is not nearly enough fabric to allow for such luxuries...*
