Shoes typically don't fit my foot that well and take awhile to find one that does. So sadly, in person is the only way I'd be comfortable to buy.

Until I find a brand with sizing that works for me everytime, then it's off to the internet I go.

In that case, go to DJs to try on some Loake 1880s and then go on the internet to order.

Do any of the DJs in WA stock Loakes (or any other decent stuff, for that matter)?

I've heard the one in Claremont's quite big, but I wouldn't expect it to be any better than the barren flagship in the city.

Finally got the chance to visit Sydney. Aiming to get a measure up at P Johnson and have a look at their fabrics (these boys are hard to get a hold of though, left a few messages and emails, still no reply after a few days!) and hopefully get some nice shoes while I'm there.

In the $200-$250 range for leather shoes, where am I best to look while in Sydney?

GIve us a run down after your visit to P Johnson, and I'd love to see some pics of the finished product.

I could be wrong but I don't think they stock Loakes in Claremont. They don't stock them in any other stores either. I live around the corner from DJ's in Claremont so I will check it out tomorrow. Brogues of Claremont in the Old Theater Lane do stock Loakes though.

Edit: Call them up, I'm sure they will be more informed on what they stock than any one here!

Here!

Actually, they're only $150, but I can bump the price back up to $200-$250 if you insist!

yeah they never replied to my emails and this was months ago. best bet is to ring them.
although if they never reply to customers emails they should take it off their site imo.

i placed an order yesterday with pediwear and get an email this morning:

"There will be a slight delay of about a week before we can despatch the shoes as they are still completing manufacture at present. Please therefore expect delivery within 16 - 18 working days."

They are excellent. Construction wise, right up there with any other machine-made pant I have seen.

After I factored in the cost of shipping, the cost of hemming with a cuff (often $25), and the cost of bringing in the waist (the 32 was slightly too big for me in the waist), they worked out to be about $250 a pair. Also, the size 32 sell out like nothing I've ever seen before. So I gave up on HY trousers, and now just order from P Johnson, which unfortunately cost about $400 a pair these days.

How are the Benjamin pants from ehaberdasher.com in terms of price/quality ratio compared to Howard Yount? I need a few 100% wool pairs

Never tried HY, but I do have a Benjamin suit for about 8 months. The pants are what I consider generously cut as I prefer very slim pants. But to some it may still be slim. Medium rise, snug around the arse, but a bit billowy from half way down the thigh for me. Basically a straight line from the widest part of the pants where the arse goes down to the hem. Drapes well. Had to get them taped from the knee. Super 140 wool has a slight sheen to it. Haven't pilled yet at the crotch. Smooth feel but not delicate.
