A very happy Indian New Year to all who celebrate. According to tradition, "Children burst crackers, people wear new clothes and prepare special dishes" so I wore a new (to me) secondhand chambray shirt that I just got off eBay smile.gif

 

On another note, I had something very important happening today and felt a little anxious and excited when I woke up at 5 and couldn't get back to sleep. After ironing a few shirts and polishing a few shoes, I felt much more at peace.

 

There's something very calming about the process.

 

Anyone else have a similar experience?

anyone else been watching Get Smart on a Saturday afternoon lately? Always been a great show, but I'm watching it with a new appreciation for their clothes - they wear some great stuff.

Haven't been watching it but have always thought Maxwell smart was very well dressed.

I notice the way people dress in movies as well now.

the other day i watched A Single Man and was distracted by how well dressed most of the actors were.

Hmm, CottonWork has increased their prices by over 10% since i last used them. What's also funny is that the shirt's are more expensive in AUD than in USD, when it should be the other way around due to the strength of the AUD.

The clothes on Get Smart have always been fantastic. Mainly a USA take on UK 60s. Sometimes Max looks a bit odd but always natty. Max usually wears double vented jackets, an oddity in USA until relatively recently.

Nothing sloppy, nothing too tight, and lots of fun with colours. She always looks great even though in real life she was 10 years older than Max.

Max really does have great suits, pants and jackets. Even his shirts and ties are good but of course he is limited in shoes due to the practicality of accommodating the shoe phone. Most of his jackets have lots of interesting detail, such as flaps on all three front pockets or something different without looking too try hard hipster or look at me faux dandy.

My critiscm, and clearly this is looking back with hindsight over the nearly 50 years since its inception, is that I'd wear Maxs clothes altered a bit to be less tight, I'd let most of his trousers down one half or one whole inch, I'd have deeper vents in the suits, slightly wider lapels, slightly longer jackets and wider ties.

I'd wear Chiefs jackets right now.

The series is great to catch on TV, even better to get DVD and avoid the stupid adverts.

Worthwhile watching to see a variety of costumes each episode, notice the fine tailoring and fit and to ponder why good tailored clothes of today came to be so unadventurous and bland.

Never saw Get Smart growing up in sunny Scotland (too young for the original run and it did not get repeated the way it does here). Loved The Man from UNCLE, The Prisoner and The Avengers (Mrs Peel..we're needed) on repeat for story and style and the description above makes me think I should dig out the DVDs of these and also keep an eye out for Get Smart (at which point I think I am supposed to say "Smart thinking 99" or something).

fxh, any chance of a style breakdown of The Man from UNCLE, The Prisoner or The Avengers. Blahman would be interested in Mrs Peel's catsuits (actually who wouldn't?).
