Hermes Soap

I use the verte d orange soap bars by hermes and noticed that you could get them off of ebay for a good price (soap costs 30$ a bar where i live) but im worried about the soap being countefeit.
Anyone try these soaps? I noticed that there is also bvlgari soap bars on ebay, anyone try these?

I put this firmly in the more money than common sense category. $30 for a bar of soap?!

Hermes soaps can be obtained quite inexpensively from lots of discounters; probably 1/3 or less than what you are paying. I'd say if you look at the feedback and the member on ebay has long standing with selling fragrances or fragrance accessories, you are probably fine. Eau d'orange verte is widely available VERY inexpensively, so you can probably get the fragrance and soap combo from some of the discounters more cheaply than $30.

I heard that certain Nice five star hotels have hermes soap in their rooms. I was wondering If like an employee was stealing soap and selling it on ebay. I got a bottle of Bvlgari shampoo off ebay that turns out you get free when you stay at a bvlgari resort.

Sigh... Hermes eau d'orange soap is produced in huge quantities and is obtainable from every fragrance discounter very easily. So, it's not exactly "limited," "exclusive," or rare. You've bought into the hype. At the HErmes boutique, EdV probably runs nearly $100 because they sell a LOT based on their name. You can get a gigantic 6oz vat of the stuff for probably 50 bucks from various sources, if you know where to look.

I was just wondering where these people got thousands of these soap bars to sell on ebay for cheap when they go for 30$ for nordstroms. Im not interested in the fragrance, I like the soap bars and the shampoo/conditioner.

You're paying for the name at any of those stores... Otherwise, most designer fragrances are made in huge quantities and can always be found on ebay for a LOT cheaper.

EdV shampoo/liquid soap is $35 at the Hermes store for a medium-ish (6 oz?) bottle. Which discounters carry it for less? The eBay sellers look like they're selling the tiny bottles you find at hotels.

What is so special about a hermes soap bar that require it to cost $29.50 more than the average Dove soapbar. When I was in the lower merion clinics, all these rich mainline trophy wives would come in complaining of dry itchy skin, eczema, etc. Every single time the doctor would look at them and ask them what's in their skincare routine, and it would turn out to be six different expensive soaps, exfoliants, lotions, body oils, etc. The treatment, as it turned out, was to cut all of it out and just use Dove or ivory, something simple and no fuss. Not that I'm advocating for Dove or Ivory, but I don't really understand how Hermes soap > drugstore soap in terms of actual usage (not as the bathroom counter decoration, which of course in which Hermes is superior, but if you're just using it for decoration, then there's no need to buy more)

I am not surprised at all with your story of the women with all the different facial products having eczema - all of these products can be simply a manifestation of a neurosis that also causes eczema. All of this crap they put on their face can definitely exacerbate it.

As for the Hermes soap, I'm sure the smell is a big factor in it's use.

Hermes soap has rich lather and it smells great. Its for people like me who yearn for designer toothbrushes and shampoo and such. goto hermes.com and look at the descriptions for these products and they sell them pretty well I think

The majority of non mass market soaps are "triple-milled", which means they are a lot denser, they contain less moisture and they last longer. They also tend to smell better, though that is of course subjective, and use expensive ingredients like glycerin, lanolin, shea butter, etc. $30 a bar maybe a bit much but $3 or $4 a bar maybe be a reasonable price to pay for a small luxury.

It seems, then, that the $30 a bar price tag is much of the appeal for you. In that case, just pay a lot for your soap and shampoo and toothbrushes and enjoy them. For the rest of us, who care about quality and not brand first-and-foremost, paying $30 for a $3 bar of soap is hardly high on our list. In terms of "designer" soaps, I like Floris better anyway and their triple-milled soap, even at full retail, is probably $15 or less...
