Know anything about cifonelli suits?

Cifonelli is a classic Italian/French company. Generally regarded as a superior Parisian manufacturer. I don't know enough about the company's past, but certainly not a small Italian shop that licenses their name. Follow-up research is certainly warranted. Hard to say unless the price and suit are known whether it is a good buy. Currently Bergdorf Goodman in New York is carrying Cifonelli jackets (and suits again this year?) and have had shirts there in the past. I think Bergdorf's sells their suits for the $2000 range off the rack. Looking at a jacket there recently I was not terribly impressed with the finishing, but I didn't look very hard.

The Cifonelli RTW line sold in the US is made in Italy by Nervesa. Quality is better than Zegna, almost on par with Caruso. Pretty good stuff. The styling is definitely above average. They do some great models. When it first came out the suits were going for $1600-$1700. I thought it was a pretty good (retail) deal at that price. But at $2000+ it is overpriced.

Saks used to carry them. At the end of last season, they either stopped carrying Cifonelli altogether or they just decided that their clientele in Houston wasn't going to buy it. In any event, I was sorely tempted by a couple of the suits on sale, but I ultimately decided that the cut was overly-shouldered for my tastes. They're very nice, in any event, and even nicer when on sale for $700.

I saw a bunch of them recently at Filene's Basement, in a sale of Bergdorf Goodman clothes. Selling for $599, marked down from $1700-$2400 as I recall. I thought they were beautiful suits. Some odd fabrics and colors, but that's just what one gets at Filene's sometimes. Neiman-Marcus also carries Cifonelli, at least the NM in Washington, DC. Very nice cashmere sweaters....
