Ummm, the welted sole on those protrudes so far it reminds me of the fugly bumpers all the car makers in the US came out with when they mandated the 5 mph crash requirement for them...  shog[1].gif

Belay that- "Soletech"...   shog[1].gif

Picture was difficult to read, was looking at a pair of Bally's boots on the bay that had these installed- they do look comfortable! Had to snag them...

all look prettyterrible.
if it has to be one of those go for dr.sholls.

otherwise in that pricerange, try loake off ebay or bexley.fr for a maybe nicer quality shoe

THAT was pretty friggin rude- there is nothing wrong with the look of any of those boots, it's a matter of personal preference. He was looking for suggestions, not criticism right?   peepwall[1].gif

When you're shopping in that price range of COURSE you are compromising on construction and durability, but if you like the way they look and they feel good and you don't mind replacing them in a couple of years- God bless, go for it...

What's so rude about his comment? He gave his opinion, does give suggestion, and then gives further recommendation.

That brand is sold on The Corner as well. http://www.thecorner.com/us/men/designer/foot-the-coacher# Beyond that I know nothing about it though.

Whoa,,, overpriced much?!

I've been wearing these for a while now, they're actually pretty comfortable and relatively cheap. Quality's good also. Look great with my 511s.

what is it specifically that makes them look so bad? I am trying to train my eye to recognize small indicators of poor quality

thanks for the recommendations, I will investigate them. Is loake a brand or seller?

I didnt find it all that rude, but thanks for sticking up for the newbies, Busa! I appreciate it. I am battle hardened from years of interwebs and forum posting so nothing really fazes me :p

Do you guys have any recommendations? Should I step up to the wolverine winchester and other ~200 USD boots?

DG, you will probably find most here will advise you to save up a bit more and get something of higher quality.  In the end, you actually save money.  Many Wolverines are Goodyear-welted and so can be resoled many times.  They will last years and years compared to $100-150 boots that might last a year or so with heavy wear.  Not sure how you feel about used, but you could consider getting AE's or Aldens on the bay.  Or maybe try to get some AE or Alden seconds.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong with the looks of the boots you posted.  It's really all to do with the quality of construction and durability of the boot.  But some like to buy cheaper boots every year and toss them.  That's okay, too.  But you won't find many here that do that.

Glad you were not offended, it was not supposed to do so!

loake is an english shoe brand, they can be found on lots of stores and are carreid a lot on ebay.
for axample shoehealer or pediwear will carry them.
quality of them is quite solid, if you want to upgrade a bit further, try their 1880 range.
i am just saying that i find every of the particular models have some kind of flash, for example the leather appearance or the sole ( especially the asos ones really dont look good! much more like a trying to be stylish boot ).

you could also try grenson, they are quite often on sale and in the 150ish range. i was not too inpressed with their quality and fit but dont count on me on this one!

i post you some links you can check out. please note: maybe there are cheaper shops to carry them or so on, this is just for consideration!
