When I was a kid, my family never had meatloaf for dinner. One night, probably around 3rd grade, I spent the night at a new friend's house for the first time. Meatloaf was served for dinner and, interally, I freaked out. What was in this loaf? What would it taste like? I remember thinking that it wasn't bad but that I didn't want to eat it again. That is still the only time I've ever eaten meatloaf.

I have loved it since I was a kid. A restaurant I used to go to in Providence used to take the leftovers and grill it and serve it on a portuguese roll with homemade ketchup. Man that used to really blow me away.

My wife has this great recipe for it. I'll try and post it. It uses, amongst other things, chorizo, ground beef, cummin, and one jalopeno pepper. Very good. Of course, she makes Japanese style rice to go with it. Some how, I expect some spuds when I see meatloaf, but the rice goes nicely too.

^ I like meatloaf a lot, because as above you can turn it into something much better than what maybe many associate with bad memories of meatloaf (dry, overcooked, tasteless).

There must be something in the air. I haven't eaten meatloaf since I was a kid. Two weeks ago, I was suddenly inspired to make one. Very standard recipe. It was delicious both warm and, next day, cold.

Meatloaf is one of those dinners from childhood that would literally make me gag as I tried to choke it down (even when smothered in ketchup).

There was a rather large woman in one of the offices where I worked a few years ago who brought a cream-cheese-stuffed meatloaf into the office for a pot-luck party.

That's nauseating.
