Clothing with Logos on it

I can see why there's a reaction on this forum to people who are decked out from head to toe in logo's but does that mean you eschew ALL logo's?

I think there are some nice logo'd items out there like the H Hermes belt. I don't see anything wrong with that stuff with more casual clothes, as long as it's only 1 (maybe 2) noticeable logo's at a time.

I just wish Lacoste would come out with a giant gator like polo did with the horse. In all seriousness I really don't care if it has a logo as long as its not an eyesore or plastered all over the clothing.

logos are a pestilence upon society.
I personally think that, if I am to serve as advertising space for the company, I should at least be paid for my services, rather than the other way around.

I tend to avoid most logo's simply because they tend to be found on items where you pay a much higher brand premium. Take the horse off the shirt and you'd pay 1/2 the price for the same shirt. It's all of course part of the marketing strategy - forget making quality clothing, get people to buy into the brand mentality and even wear the name on the outside of the clothes! You then get the masses thinking that "D&G" (or insert other name here) is something to aspire to.

Should forumites also get paid for talking up brands like Kent Wang, Edward Green, Rubinacci, and Anna Mutuozzo on this forum? This is free marketing for these companies just like wearing a logo'd t-shirt is for Versace or Gucci. The only difference is here you're a talking infomercial instead of a billboard.

The infomercial would be for one who has made the choice to actively participate on this webboard. I rarely have the luxury of being able to choose if I will be viewing overly-logoed types. Incidentally, i would think that the other bit is personal insecurity, ie you must validate your clothing choice with some sort of logo, in order to let others perhaps know how much you spent or that you are generally fashionable. These types also generally trend towards poor taste anyway. I'd rather be inconspicuously well dressed.

Logo'd items I wear are items that I like or fits me well, I don't buy them for the logo. Unfortunately most people buy logo'd stuff for the logo. That is the travesty.

I wear Lacoste polos and Penguin casual ss button ups, both have a logo. It's hard for me to be motivated to wear much more logo'd items than that.

The question, to me, is, what is the appeal of the conspicuous logo? To telegraph that you're wearing something expensive? To signal you're in the right clique, wearing the right clothes? Neither strikes me as appealing.

If not those options, then what? Why sport an H belt other than to advertise you're wearing Hermes? It's not that there's anything inherently appealing about wearing a random letter at your waist -- I don't see anyone rocking a J belt.

Too often, people confuse branding with style, and so it doesn't surprise SF doesn't go for logos.

Some logoes can be interesting design elements. I am thinking specifically of the Gucci GG and other classics of that genre.

I've got a Lacoste jacket that has a large gator on the breast pocket.
