Beekman Bar and Books Reopens in NYC

The original New York cigar lounge has reopened in its original location on First Ave. The place is located at 50/1 and is actually right down the street from my apartment, which is convenient. They serve some light fare, have a terrible cigar menu, and have some solid whiskeys. The place isnt as charming as some of the other places you can smoke in the city, but its nice enough I suppose. It is pretty comparable to the other Bar and Books locations (Hudson and Lexington).

It opened about a week ago, I went for a couple hours tonight. Interesting setup they have... the front of the bar is like any other shitty basement bar (you cannot smoke there), but then they have a private room in the back where you can smoke. The room isnt so big, maybe 300 sq feet, room for about 20 people max. Some plush couches and chairs and a few tables. The smoking room is too bright, and the music is downright atrocious. There is a 5 dollar charge to smoke.

Thanks for the report. I'm glad to hear somebody else say something negative about their cigar selection. I'm dissappointed everytime I don't bring my own. I have a wide range of things I'd select from, but none of them are ever on their menu. I recommend one of the flights of whiskey, although in the last 5 years the price has gone up 50% and the size of the portions has gone down about 40%. It used to be a great deal. I assume the $5 charge is the same as at the Hudson location, $5 if you bring your own. Included in cost of cigar if you purchase there.
