What are some simple yet delicious cocktail recipes?

I'm just wondering what are some good and simple cocktail recipes for me to try. I've never made any before outside of mixers, but now I'm somewhat interested in seeing what's good. I've got:

Vodka (GG, GG Poire, Russian Shot, Ketel 1, Svedka)
Gin (Tanqueray 10, Bombay Sapphire)
Whiskey (JD)
Scotch-Whiskey (Chivas Regal 12, Buchanan's, Johnny Walker Black, Cutty Sark)
Bourbon (JB)
Courvosier
Tequila (some almond-y kind bought in Mexico)
Triple Sec
Vermouth (Noilly Prat- Dry, Martini & Rosso- Extra Dry)
OJ
Cranberry Juice
Coke
Limes, Lemon
Angoustora Bitters

So I do have a lot to work with in terms of quantity of liquors, but I don't feel like I have many "mixing agents." What would you suggest? Thanks!

Your selection of liquor is a bit excessive, actually. You may want to add Kahlua or Cachaca such as Pitu (Sugar Cane Rum for Caipirinhas) to the mix, however. That said, a single bottle of fine Bourbon, Scotch, Tequila, Vodka, Rum, and Gin gives you a v. wide base.

For Caipirinhas, muddle a sugar cube with a lime in the bottom of a glass....add Cachaca. Enjoy....its Brazil's national drink!

Ha. I somewhat agree. What can I say, I have little self-control. Coming from VA where alcohol sales are state-regulated to CA where there are weekly alcohol clearances at Safeway, Longs, etc...I just buy whatever I think is a "good deal," whether I "need" it or not. So, the sad thing is, this is about 2/3 of what I actually have. Oh I just found I have some Bailey's.

Oh, we have threads on bars here. Even if that was an eighth of what you had that would not be considered excessive by the majority. There are a bunch of recipes in the What are You Drinking thread, and I've been compiling a brief list from a gentleman who PM'd me. I'll cross post when I finish. ~ H

Check out the articles at http://drinkboy.com/

Looks like you can make quite a few classics: martinis (vodka/gin + vermouth + bitters), gimlets (vodka + lime juice), Old Fashioned (bourbon and other stuff), ward 8. Where's your rum though? I can also really recommend just buying a recipebook, I've found no better than the New York's Bartender Guide containing 1001 recipes, with illustrations.

I like vodka gimlets a lot (substitute gin if preferred). Just vodka, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup (or use Rose's Lime instead). Add a bit of triple sec, and you have a kamikaze. Fast, easy, and tasty.

Get yourself some sweet vermouth and make a Manhattan.

For now go with Martini. Simple, tasty, classic. USE GIN. Also invest in orange bitters.

+1 on the Vodka gimlet. Go with just the Rose's, it compliments the laziest cocktail on Earth.

Make an Old Fashioned. Melt a sugar cube over ice (or just use simple syrup) with a little water. Add a couple measures of Bourbon, a wedge of orange and a dash of angostura bitters. Just don't do in in a gray suit.

To a chilled glass, add a bit of ice. Then add whiskey or whisky.

Consume. Simple and delicious!

I recently had a pretty tasty "Spaghetti Western": bourbon, campari, and sweet-and-sour, I think.

Berry Wall: Dry gin, sweet vermouth, curacao with a lemon and cherry garnish.

Negroni:

1/3 Gin (I like Martin Miller's for this)
1/3 sweet vermouth (I like Carpano Antica)
1/3 Campari

If you drink it in the morning (as you should), drink it over rocks with a slice of orange, like they used to do at Giacosa (I suppose Cavalli must do the same now...haven't been back since he reopened it.) If you drink it in the evening, drink it neat and instead of the orange slice, do a burned orange twist (do a twist off the rind, squeeze a bit of oil off, flame it, and then drop it in.)

Simple. These and martinis are 98% of my cocktails.
