I've been there maybe 15 times and love it. I hope you are staying at an all-inclusive resort, because they offer really great value. Lots of good cigars, rum, food. etc. The Dominican people are, incredibly friendly people, I've found. I know that is a horrible cliche, but I've never seen anything to the contrary. I've been to Santo Domingo, La Romana, Juan Dolio, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana. Santo Domingo kind of sucks, look out for people trying to screw you on prices. Scrutinize your hotel and restaurant/bar bills at the end of the night to make sure there are not some mysterious charges added on there. I did not like Juan Dolio very much either. But I absolutely love PC, PP and LR.
