That's quite an intricately written statement considering the simplicity of its idiocy.

C&B is more expensive, and a little over-priced, but seems like decent stuff. Ikea cracks me up, some things are ridiculously cheap and the most random stuff is really expensive. The furniture universally is crap there though. I'd rather pay extra for CB one time than pay for Ikea 10 times.

CB2 is nice also. Out of all the chain type stores I like C&B the best. West Elm isn't too bad either but smaller selection and seemingly higher prices.

C&B, unlike Ikea, does have some quality production pieces -- you have to look and choose carefully, but they do, in fact, make good furniture.

For example: their Oak Park line (no longer widely available) is solid walnut with wood-on-wood joinery.

I agree that C&B does have decent quality furniture. Although I agree that, overall, it lacks bit of an edge or style that most of us here look for or require, there will be one-off pieces that fit nicely into one's design approach. For example, hardly any of C&B's furniture is mid-century inspired, but they do have the Tate bed, which I just purchased and find will work well with other mid-century "inspired" pieces I have at my place (although admittedly, I can't afford furniture from any of the heavy hitters in MCM - eames, HM, sarinnen, etc.).

IKEA is more or less danish or scandinavian inspired. Which is a movement on its own.

If I had the budget, I'd be all over Cassina or Ligne Roset. But for now, I'm still a Room and Board fan.

CB2 is more modern-inspired, but if you know the classics, a lot of their stuff comes off as clumsy aping. Room & Board also has modern stuff (including knockoffs of classics like the Saarinen table), but they're a bit more expensive. In the long run, it's best to get the originals if you're going to be keeping your furniture for a while.
