I really do not mind the creases as they give a lot of character and vintage look but always wondered if it were normal as I did not notice it much in my calf version or Mcarther's pictures. Funny thing is I've worn these probably 2 times outside of my house and always store with shoe trees. Oh well.
There's an extremely high level of variability in the creasing of shell Aldens. I have a pair of chukkas where one shoe never developed a crease. It still looks brand new! The other shoe looks like you'd expect.
The side creasing on your shoe shows up to a lesser extent on most of the longwing pictures that get posted here. If your pair fit well then enjoy them. When it's time to get them refurbished Alden might be able to clean up the side creasing for you. I wouldn't think for a second about sending them in to Alden as "defective" though.
The good thing about shell is that those creases probably won't get any worse with wear.
