I took my Brixtons in to VIP shoe repairs (which I guess is B Nelson?) to have my heels replaced. They seemed to have really sanded down the edges in the back. I guess I can go over it with an edge dressing, but has anyone else experienced this with them? I've heard such good things about them here, but they cost twice what my usual cobbler costs and they take twice as long to get the work done.

I think vip should fix them

Quick question on shoe trees...I wear an 8D and according to Alden's size recommendations I should use a S; however I noticed that all the pairs I have received from the various retails have been a M. Should I be using a S or M? I never really have paid attention to the sizing but i notice and odd line on the outside of my #8 Barrie boot the other day and wonder if this was caused by the tree. Thanks!!

Contact Nick at BNelson. He will fix the problem and I'm rather confident he will pay for shipping too.

I think it does, but there are some that say TTS.  The BB PTB, RL Marlow, and tremont last all seem to be tweeners that need to be tried on.  In all three cases I have gone with my barrie size.  But I have read and heard from SA's that there are those that go to TTS.

I have all 3.
I am TTS 9.5D and Barrie 9D.

In these I have:

BB PTB: 9.5C
Marlow: 9.5D
Tremont: 9D

I would also characterize all of these as Tweeners given my experience and given what I have read on SF.

It was mentioned earlier that it starts on the 14th. I was trying to play around with it for the first time on some cordovan, and I don't see where I would enter the corp. discount card #... unless the % is taken off automatically after I enter my CC info, which I haven't tried yet.

The Brooks sale is next Thursday, the 14th.

Since they redid the website, you now just add your corporate card info to your profile once and it remembers you each time you login. The problem is that you cannot see the discount until the last page where you verify your order. Go through checkout and put in your payment info and proceed to the next page (you can still back out after this step). At this last "place your order" page you can then finally see the discount that is applied. If you want to test it out the everyday corporate discount of 15% should be applied on that last page today.

As a reminder, add any cordovans you might want to your cart by Wed. In the past Brooks has removed all evidence of these shoes during major sales and sometimes you can't find them even if you search by their catalog number. However, I have found that if cordovans are saved in your cart before the sale starts then they should still be there during the sale, although if you delete them (to change a size or color, for example) then they disappear. So add everything you think you might be interested in to your cart early and decide on Thursday.

While they may have changed things, I can verify that I did this procedure for the last corporate sale in October and it worked fine. And this was after they had switched to the new website design.

Thank you for clearing this up for me, gentlemen.

On the subject of whether the Atom is dress or casual, this is a photo of the Atom from Leffot's tumblr - this looks pretty dressy to me:

Really wish I jumped on these earlier... amazing what a good photo can do!

To be clear, I don't own this shoe, I pulled that photo from Leffot's tumblr (though I have seen the shoe in store).

I think the Tremont last adds a bit of "dressiness" to these shoes over the barrie last. For those that don't like Barrie with suits, tremont is easier to wear with them. It is not as sleek as the Plaza or Aberdeen, though.

I agree. The Tremont and single leather sole makes it much more "dressy" to me. But, the question is will I wear it to the office with a suit given the antique trim. I would just give in and go with the RL Marlow, but I've heard that is more on the "blobby" side of things. Is that true?

Marlow.

You'll have to judge for yourself. "Blobbiness" is relative.

I personally have a difficult time wearing antique trimmed shoes with a suit. Others do it. I am fine with that. If the welt is darkened (which I have had done), then it is more doable IMO.

I have no problem wearing the Marlow with a suit.

The shell indys on Alden SF's website do not come with the specs as listed. The specs as listed are for the other Indys shown. Always best to ask before ordering. Their currently offered Indy in color 8 comes on the barrie last with double waterloc soles, neither of which is mentioned on the website.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I have never seen a shell indy made up on a neo-cork sole.

The Marlow is a very interesting shoe - it is very heavy and thick and pretty wide fitting, which you would think would create a blobby shoe. However, the toebox tapers, which gives it more of a formal shape. Overall Marlows seem a lot less "blobby" than Barrie lasted longwings. They are closer to the Tremont IMO.

The build quality is even better than Aldens (sacrilege!). I like them about the same as my Aldens.
