In addition, NRO frequently advertises a 20% sale (with the operative word "advertises"), J crew has done 20%, Steeple Chase Clothiers in Cincinnati, and Brooks Brothers to name a few have all done 15-25% off at some point during the year.

I wish J Crew (or someone) would redo those saddle shoes with suede and #8. I would love a pair of those

Cigar Medallion Cap Toe

The Cigar Atoms at Leffot are teasing me. Very tempted to pick them up, but it seems that I may be too close to what I already own. What do you guys think? I currently own the pair above, Cigar LWB and Cigar Brixtons.

I agree with BeSpiff... you have the casual cigar in the LWB and Brixtons, and the more dressy medallion cap toe bal in Cigar. The atom would be very similar in use to the LWB which I think is a better shoe (but that's just me). The tremont last is sleeker, but not by much at all. It still has a fairly rounded toe. That coupled with the antique edge trim makes it much more of a casual shoe than not. Still, that cigar atom looks really cool. If you have the dinero to burn, go for it!

J Crew did one in snuff suede with a color 8 saddle. That was the finest suede Alden makeup I've seen, imho. I was a fool to not pick it up when I had a chance. That window though, was very small.

I might prefer camel /tan suede with cigar saddles.

I'm looking for suggestions that are definitely not SF-approved. I pretty much wear lace-up boots all the time and they are a real pain at the security check points when travelling. So....does anyone know of good quality (preferably Goodyear-welted but Blake-stitched would be okay) lace-up boots that are good-looking, of a casual style and that are comfortable and that have a side zip (Horror of horrors!). There you have it. And I'm not really interested in Chelsea boots. Thanks.

Quick question: where can I get some waxed laces for my Indy boots? I think they would look better than the regular laces.

Why not get some shoes for your travel days?

looks great.

are you using wax for step 4, and how often?  or is step 4 only for shell, and not CXL?
I have never consider using wax on CXL.  First time i have seen a really nice shine on CXL

Thanks -

I've never used wax on my Indys. Just brushing. TBH, I don't buff a ton either.

That sounds like it's gonna be a tough search. The Frye Company www.thefryecompany.com has quite a few to pick from in various leathers and finishes. As for construction, they are totally model specific. They offer everything from Goodyear-welted to Blake Stitched to glue jobs. The frustrating part sometimes is figuring out which type of construction has been used. The pictures give some clue, but with the use of "fake" stitching in so many fashion first brands out there, it is not advisable to go strictly based on appearance. Most of Frye's offerings are sort of reminiscent of their western boot heritage, so they would be quite different than your AE's and Aldens. Then again, you are from El Paso, so a western boot may fit in quite well...

I got a pair of John Varvatos lace up/zip boots a while ago that are of decent quality.
I wouldn't pay full price for them ($700) but they go on sale a lot.

BIG WONG, I would say your good on cigar Alden's for the moment.

I agree -- too close to your others. I like the Cigar Atom but the antique welt is not as good for me as a dark welt when wearing to work. Still hunting a brown wingtip in a non-Barrie last....
